I also have a T40p running great for quite a while w/ 2.4. The one thing I haven't tried to get working is suspending the laptop. I do have APM in there though so I can monitor the battery etc but I'd like suspend to work, just haven't spent time figuring it out. Wireless, sound, etc all working awesome. At some point I'll upgrade to 2.6 when I have a chunk of free time.vishnja wrote:My T40p has been working fine and stable for more than a year with Gentoo and kernel 2.4.XX plus APM.
Now (with a new harddrive) I got everything (haven't tested IR as I don't need it and didn't compile it into the kernel) working with kernel 2.6.11 and ACPI.
Thanks to this forum!!!

cat /proc/acpi/thermal_zone/THM0/temperature
temperature: 39 C
cat /proc/acpi/thermal_zone/THM0/trip_points

pentium-m 1,4 ghz
15" XGA TFT / 1.024 x 768

Flex Bay II 8 x DVD-ROM 24 x 10 x 24 x CD-RW combo
network: 8139too (lan)
ipw2100 (wlan)
and this works:
ati-graphics with acceleration: fglrx (ati-driver) (with second monitor and same screen)
switching cpu-freq with speedfreq between 600 mhz and 1,4 ghz
sound: module: snd_intel8x0 (more sounds @ the same time with dmix)
extra keys and fn-keys (module: asus_acpi)
/proc/acpi/thermal_zone/THRM/temperature shows cpu-temperature
gnome shows the time how long the notebook will run
also wlan (switched on/off by the extra key, which is also lightning) and ethernet is running
toucpad with scrolling on the right side (module psmouse i think)
acpi is switching to runlevel battery (no cronjob and daemons like this)
and what to do is:
i need a better quality form the dmix ---- why alsa don't support this by standart?? should be!!!
xinerama (i don't need it now; 2th screen is only for movies)
throttling?? i know it is somthin else than speedstep
tv-out (don't know anything about it)
is there a sensor for the hdd?
IR and cardreader (i dont need them)
I have the Toshiba P25-S607, which is a P4 2.8g 1g RAM 17" Widescreen Laptop, everything works. Wireless, wired, 1400x900 display. Actually come to think of it the only thing I haven't tested was the SD slot, since I never use it.Korean Ian wrote:Hi Everyone,
Soon I was thinking about purchasing a notebook with which to use Gentoo Linux on. I was curious as to how many browsers of this forum have built a succesful working Gentoo on a notebook.

ACPI too? I've a Toshiba Tecra M2 (Centrino 2.00 Ghz) but ACPI events don't work at all. I've never tried Firewire and SD, but USB, sound, wireless and graphic (Nvidia) work well (2.6.11-r11)I have the Toshiba P25-S607, which is a P4 2.8g 1g RAM 17" Widescreen Laptop, everything works.
