WLan problem

Hi,
i want to run my prism54-pcmcia card on my notebook.
When i look at the dmesg output, when i plug it in, i get the following:

Code: Select all

Loaded prism54 driver, version 1.2
PCI: Enabling device 0000:02:00.0 (0000 -> 0002)
ACPI: PCI interrupt 0000:02:00.0[A] -> GSI 10 (level, low) -> IRQ 10
and in ifconfig:

Code: Select all

eth1 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:30:B4:00:00:00
          BROADCAST MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1
          RX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
          TX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
          collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000
          RX bytes:0 (0.0 b) TX bytes:0 (0.0 b)
          Interrupt:10
but in iwconfig eth1, i get the following:

Code: Select all

eth1 NOT READY! ESSID:off/any
          Mode:Managed Channel:0 Access Point: 00:00:00:00:00:00
          Tx-Power=31 dBm Sensitivity=0/200
          Retry min limit:0 RTS thr=0 B Fragment thr=0 B
          Encryption key:off
          Link Quality:0 Signal level:0 Noise level:0
Rx invalid nwid:0 Rx invalid crypt:0 Rx invalid frag:0
          Tx excessive retries:0 Invalid misc:0 Missed beacon:0
And for example Kismet, tells me:

Code: Select all

Source 0 (addme): Enabling monitor mode for prism54g source interface eth1 channel 6...
FATAL: SetIFFlags: Unknown interface eth1: No such file or directory
Maybe somebody can help me,
thank you.

You need to set the ESSID configured on your access point

Code: Select all

iwconfig eth1 essid <your ESSID>
iwconfig eth1 key <your WEP key>
dhcpcd eth1 (if you use DHCP)
This can be automated in /etc/conf.d/wireless (see /etc/conf.d/wireless.example) if you use baselayout-1.11.12-r4

So "Not ready" means, that the wlan adapter isn't connected with an access point?
But why tells me kismet then that the device is unknown?

I get no errors in dmesg, but how can i check the log?

When i do "ifconfig eth1 up" i get:
SIOCSIFFLAGS: No such file or directory

I think this is strange because Kismet also gives this error with SIOCSIFFLAGS.

This error may happen if the card [/quote]firmware is not available. Take a look at

http://prism54.org/firmware/

and check if you have the right firmware in the right place.
