Downloading A File From A Burned CD

  • Quote

Post by c0vert » Sat Jun 25, 2005 8:01 pm

I'm just wondering how you would download a file off the net in Windows, and then install it under gentoo. I burned it to a CD, and im not sure how you access the CD from command line in Gentoo. I dont have a GUI up yet because i need the internet to get some drivers. Except this is the driver for my wireless internet card. So i think i need to Mount the CDROM or something. Is that correct? Can someone walk me through this please?
Thanks in advance

Depending on your fstab, it may be as simple as

Code: Select all

mount /mnt/cdrom
devmanual

I've lost a machine.. literally _lost_. it responds to ping, it works completely, I just can't figure out where in my apartment it is. -- http://bash.org/?5273

Or else try mount -t iso9660 /dev/cdroms/cdrom0 /mnt/cdrom

thanks a lot
I got it mounted, but when i do Tar -xvjpf (not sure what this does but i used these flags on installation of gentoo stage file) ... Tar -xvjpf amelfilenamewhichiforget.tar.bz2

it says

Code: Select all

Tar you must specify one of the '-Acdtrux' options
Any ideas?

Code: Select all

tar xvjpf /path/to/filename.tar.bz2
Should work.

If not, emerge unfoo and try that (unfoo is a wrapper that works for pretty much everything)

Well, neither have we. We can't very well look at your cd and see what file you wish to unpack and where you want to files from the archive to be stored on your filesystem. You need to figure those things out first.
