Quake 3 Punkbuster woes

I can't enable PB anymore. When I click to enable it in the game in the server browser, it keeps staying on disabled. Permission for the game is set on my user and group for the entire folders of the game. This just started randomly. Rebooting or restarting the game doesn't work. Anyone know anything about this?

Check your ~/.q3a folder. You might need to change to your ~/.q3a/pb folder and run ./pbweb.x86 to update punkbuster.

I do not have pbweb.x86 :S I am running on amd64.

So download it. pbweb.x86

Put it in ~/.q3a/pb, make it executable, execute it.

Didn't help. The file updated my PB but when I click to enable PB in quake3 it still won't enable. If I join servers with PB enabled I get kicked because mine isn't enabled.

then put +seta cl_punkbuster 1 on the cmd line

or at the console type

pb_cl_enable

Ok when i use the +seta cl_punkbuster 1 line and check the console I see cl_punkbuster is read only message. So I checked the permissions of the quake3 and pb directories and they allow the user and group I use to play games to read, write and execute.

I did a chmod -R 777 /opt/quake3/* to try again but it still says that message and PB will still not enable. Keep in mind I never changed the permissions to begin with when this problem started.

Sorry for the long delay though. Had some problems with internet on this box.

Edit - do you know of a decent serverbrowser in linux? Like gamespy arcade, all seeing eye etc.

I got same but the premissions didnt chage anything ....

either +set cl_punkbuster 1 on the command line like

quake3 +set cl_punkbuster 1 +disconnect

or type in the console ~

/pb_cl_enable

will work

I had a similar problem with America's Army when I first tried to use it. The problem stopped happening by the current release of 2.3, so I don't know what changed / what I did to fix it. My advice is to try updating your game, if you aren't using the latest.
