2.6.12-dark1: Steamboy

This forum covers all Gentoo-related software not officially supported by Gentoo. Ebuilds/software posted here might harm the health and stability of your system(s), and are not supported by Gentoo developers. Bugs/errors caused by ebuilds from overlays.gentoo.org are covered by this forum, too.

First 2.6.12-dark release, removed the old fixes as they've either become mainline or aren't worth keeping.

Release notes: http://sourceforge.net/project/shownote ... _id=336200
Broken out: http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/dark ... 2?download
Diff link: http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/dark ... 2?download[/code]
System: predatorbox
Distro: Arch Linux x86_64
Current projects: blackhole, convmedia and anything else I cook up.

Apologies for the laziness, but is there an ebuild?

Never have found a use for Inotify here, your welcome to apply it yourself.
charlieg wrote:Apologies for the laziness, but is there an ebuild?
I don't make ebuilds due to the fact I can't test them on my slackware system. I also don't have much interest in learning to make ebuilds because I see no point, patching via the terminal works perfectly well and is more verbose on errors.

Edit: s/command line/terminal/

I agree, I never use the ebuilds to patch the kernel.

New release is beginning development now, it will include the latest smp-nice and will also use the latest cfq-ts taken directly from -ck.

Runs great here, too, though i was able to provoke a kernel-oops (alsa-related, used alsa-drivers, which had conflicts with usb_storage). Maybe it was preempt related, i am not sure.

Announcement: -dark is offically unmaintained until someone wants to step up and maintain it.

Reason: I'm offically running FreeBSD, because of this, I can't boot test -dark releases (no more linux system) unless I wanted to use emulation, which would be hard for me to function in. If any current users would like to pick up maintaining -dark and fit my list of requirements (see below), your welcome to email me at predatorfreak@dcaf-security.org

Maintainer requirements:
1. Must realise -dark's goal, I'm not just handing the torch to anyone here.
2. Must beable to work with these goals
3. Must beable to fix basic rejects
4. Must be willing to boot-test and run each release for 24 hours (per build)

Distro: Arch Linux x86_64
Current projects: blackhole, convmedia and anything else I cook up.

That was kinda sudden... going from 'working on the next release' to 'running different OS' within a matter of days!

Yeah, I realise that. I've been contomplating a move to a BSD for quite awhile, I've just now decided to start with FreeBSD.

Announcement:
Maintainer found: vipernicus
vipernicus is offically the new maintainer of -dark, for now, the sourceforge tree will go unmaintained because vipernicus does not have a sourceforge.net account. From now on, I'll be doing some learning and working on my C/perl programming/scripting skills.

I am working on a new release as we speak, and a website. Will be much like the usual dark-sources, but with a couple of additions.

FreeBSD is not so different to Gentoo. The portage system is a bit different but just as powerful and you've still got KDE, GNOME etc. The main difference I find is that even with the FreeBSD default kernel, in use everything is very smooth, even if you've got lots of compiles going on at the same time. There's no need to go out searching for specially optimised patches for desktop use - it all comes as standard and it really rocks! Also see http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-13 ... t-150.html
