It seems as if there is no console system for which there is not an adapter to connect its joypad to a PC.
So going from a standpoint of comfort, button layout, and precision, rather than "how well it works with linux", which one do you think is the best designed console joypad?
Personally I find the PS1/2 Dual Shock to be the best Joypad I've ever come across. Plenty of buttons, an excellent d-pad and two analaog sticks, plus vibration function.
if you want better than best you'd have to re-arange the start/select button so you never accidently touch the analog pads, and add pressure sensitivity to all buttons.
(each button has a on and off state, and measures the force you use to push it in, and the time it takes (velocitiy) to go from not-pushed to pushed).
those changes to the PS2 chock pad and I don't see a reason to switch gamepad until I need a steering wheel :D
Xbox! It has the best ergonomics...
j/k the PS/PS2 controller of course.
But I don't know what to think of the boomera... er.. sorry, the PS3 controller. Looks strange...
The Nintendo Gamecube controller. Ergonomic layout, and intuitive button placement, instead of the "4 buttons of the exact same size and shape with only visual markings as to which is which" style that otherwise seems prevalent.
Other than the slightly odd placement of the Z-button, I find the GC controller to be perfect.
Dual Shock, without a doubt. Fits in my hands perfectly. XBox wins my "Worst controller ever" award. It's even worse than the Gamecube, which really sucks.
Best: Playstation1/2 Dual Shock. Perfect fit.
Honorable Mention: Gamecube. Very nice feel to it.
Worst Ever: N64. The way my hands are, there is no comfortable way to use the middle analog stick -- I either have to hold the middle "bump" at an odd angle, or hold it at the left side and stretch my thumb all the way over. Not good.
the GameCube controler is the best one out there, i've played with many of them, but the GC controller is simply the best, followed by the DualShock1/2
The N64 controller was great, far better than its GC successor. The Z button trigger was perfect for Goldeneye. However, the PS2 controller gets my vote, as the second analogue stick is priceless.
"One of the major problems encountered in time travel is not that of accidentally becoming your own father or mother ... The major problem is quite simply one of grammar..."
None would have done fine, they are all poorly designed, the PS2 Dualshock are fine (and my favorites) but also too small. Wait for the PS3 it would have better gamepads and they'll be wireless using Bluetooth (I hope they would work with a computer too...)
