MySQL 4.1 Status for Upgrades, New Installs?

So what's the deal with MySQL 4.1 these days? I see a half-dozen or more bugs about various 4.1.x releases at bugs.gentoo.org, many of which are even resolved, but it's still hard-masked. What are the risks of emerging it on an existing Gentoo system? If I have a brand-new machine that I want to install Gentoo on, is it safe to emerge it there?

as far as i know it is perfectly safe, but there are some failry signifigant changes from 4.0.x to 4.1.x. if your software will accept 4.1, then i dont see any reason not too...anyone else have feelings on this subject?

i would test this theory myself, but some of the mysql db apps that i run will not run on 4.1.x....yet
