For me, it wouldn't compile with DRM being in the kernel even as a module. There's no reason to have DRM enabled or as a module if you plan on using the fglrx drivers all the time.
Try compiling the AGP-support into the kernel, with the appropiate chipset as a module. It still gave me a couple of errors during compilation, but it worked.
Might help as well.

Hi,

there are some problems i cant solve. I tryed the ati installer and of course the portage driver. But evertime i got
(WW) ****INVALID MEM ALLOCATION**** b: 0xe0000000 e: 0xe8000000 correcting
(WW) ****INVALID IO ALLOCATION**** b: 0x3000 e: 0x3100 correcting
when x is starting. Im using the fglrx driver in the xorg.conf and run opengl-update ati.

Ideas? ;)

Seems like a gentoo problem, just installed the drivers using the .run installer from ati.com website. Opengl is working fine. A bit slower than the earlier version.
I'm using 9200 SE.

Bah, I hate dealing with ATI under Linux. I retried after downgrading my kernel to 2.6.11 and it still doesn't function correctly. Whether I use the run or the ebuild...fun.

I just found out that ati marked on 11. jun my ticket "random freezes" as resolved. I hope they didn't marked it as resolved just because of 8.14.13 because I am still experiencing frequent lockups.

This is a total noob question... but it suits me because I am a noob (even if I have officially shed that title). I have emerged in the latest e-build of ATI drivers for my system. What do I do now to get it to work? I am running KDE right now but I think it's doing software rendering. Everything looks smooth... but when I go to run an OpenGL screen saver... my fps goes to crap.

I would prefer a PM for help... but I will keep an eye on this thread as well. Thanks.

Run this:

Code: Select all

mv /etc/X11/xorg.conf /etc/X11/xorg.conf.bak
/opt/ati/bin/fglrxconfig
modprobe fglrx
echo "fglrx" >> /etc/modules.autoload.d/kernel-2.6
Or kernel-2.4 if thats your poison. Then just startx and run glxgears to test out your new opengl fps. :)

Although it's slightly off-topic, I would still like to point to one of the ATi faqs around:

well, the drivers works great.
i get 3000 fps at glxgears, instead of 3034 in the previous version but somehow games works a_LOT_ more fast.
doom3 is now working (before this driver, it was impossible to play even on 800x600 low)

glxgears is not a benchmark, I hope you mean fgl_glxgears.

Code: Select all

emerge ati-drivers ati-drivers-extra
opengl-update ati
Finally drivers works on my 9600le, kernel 2.6.11-r11. fgl_gears about 360 fps

StevenSeagal: your glxgears resaults show that opengl library in use isn't ati's.

I think the Mobility cards are generally much worse performers than the desktop-versions. My Mobility Radeon 9700 gives 402 FPS in fgl_glxgears and 2102 FPS in glxgears.

I know that the Mobility Radeon 9700 is actually based on the Radeon 9600-core, so one should not be fooled by the number. This card is very different from the desktop 9700 cards.

No i think they're in use:
fgl_glxgears --> 360 fps
glxgears --> 1800 fps (before installing drivers correctly fps were 400)

i think the 8.13.3 since it is made for those

also, my mobility is giving me 2500 fps in glxgears with these, so i wouldnt say it performs worse

I'm using kernel 2.6.11-r11 and ati-drivers 8.14.13-r1 and I have random look up of the system only when starting X.
If I disable DRI all works. Whith DRI enabled it depends. Today is not working (System Freez) yesterday I played ut2004.

Anyone having the same problem?
