Virtual Screen

Post by soccerplayer » Tue Mar 18, 2003 9:52 pm

I have all of my stuff up and working finally and I just emerged fluxbox and I am using it now. THe thing is, any resolution under 1280x1024 causes the image to be to big for the screen and to view parts of it i have to move my mouse over to it and it moves it all. Now, at this resolution i cant hardly read the text and i wanted to make the resolution 1024x768 but i want it to fill the screen, not make an image bigger than the screen that i have to move my mouse over to get. This isnt a huge problem, but its just annoying and i hope someoe can help me out o this. Thanks

Try removing 1280x1024 from your Modes line in /etc/X11/XF86Config
Here's my section:

Code: Select all

.
.
.
Section "Screen"
    Identifier	"Screen"
    Device	"GeForce3"
    Monitor	"TARGA 1786A-3"
    Option "NvAgp" "3"
    DefaultDepth 24
    DefaultFbBpp 32

    SubSection "Display"
        Depth 24
        Modes "1024x768" "800x600"
    EndSubsection
EndSection
.
.
.

move 1280x1024 after 1024x768 in your modelines.
If you need to use 1280x1024 (like a game) the resolution will be possible. You can also change beetween resolution with CTRL '+' and CTRL '-' or with CTRL ALT + ... I don't remember exactly, I am on my laptop and I need to push alt to get some keys :x

I think you just need a "ViewPort 0 0" line in your "Display section"

bah... I am having the same issue (see: http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?t=43135), and I have added the "ViewPorts" option... to no avail... I am rather confused by this...

I run 1024x768 normally, but I need to run 800x600 and 640x480 sometimes... and it gives me the virtual desktop of 1024x768 with the above resolutions... :-(
