MHz rating from cat /proc/cpuinfo too slow?

Kernel not recognizing your hardware? Problems with power management or PCMCIA? What hardware is compatible with Gentoo? See here. (Only for kernels supported by Gentoo.)

MHz rating from cat /proc/cpuinfo too slow?

I've got a really bizarre problem. I just upgraded from an Athlon XP 1800+ to a 3000+ (Barton core). Things 'feel' a little faster, but I for some reason, well:

Code: Select all

bill@greendream ~ $ cat /proc/cpuinfo
processor : 0
vendor_id : AuthenticAMD
cpu family : 6
model : 10
model name : AMD Athlon(tm)
stepping : 0
cpu MHz : 1335.175
cache size : 512 KB
fdiv_bug : no
hlt_bug : no
f00f_bug : no
coma_bug : no
fpu : yes
fpu_exception : yes
cpuid level : 1
wp : yes
flags : fpu vme de pse tsc msr pae mce cx8 sep mtrr pge mca cmov pat pse36 mmx fxsr sse pni syscall mmxext 3dnowext 3dnow
bogomips : 2564.09
As you can see, it only sees about 1300 MHz. This processor should run at about 2200 MHz. When my computer POSTs, it also says 1300 MHz. But it does see the extra L2 cache...

My motherboard is a Shuttle AK35GT2, and the processor is an Atlon XP 3000+, Barton, with a 333 MHz front side bus. The Shuttle website said that 3000+ Bartons are supported for that model, if I remember correctly.

Is there anything I can do to fix this?
'Twas brillig, and the slithy toves
Did gyre and gimble in the wabe.
All mimsey were the borogroves,
And the mome raths outgrabe.

Do you need to adjust any jumpers on your board or change the settings in the BIOS?

You probably need to change the FSB (Front Side Bus) speed in your BIOS to what the processor expects. (Probably 166/333 or 200/400 Mhz) You should also set your cpu multiplier to "default."

If you don't really know what you're doing, choosing "Load Optimized Defaults" in the BIOS is usually a good idea.
