Does anyone know of anything like this for GRUB? I'm thinking of switching to LILO if Gentoo's LILO uses the same patches as SuSe's.

I don't boot that much to make any difference. Anyway, lilo is much more difficult to mantain than grub.

LILO has always been better in the looks department than GRUB. I was quite surprised most used Grub when I made the transition to Gentoo.

But yes, Grub is easier to maintain and is better at being a boot loader than LILO.

The odd thing is the Grub manual seems to offer quite a few eye candy features that just refuse to work.

I don't reboot my notebook, just suspend it.

I often suspend to disk, which means booting. I still use lilo without any eyecand though, as i really don't care. ;)

I also use suspend2disk, but when I start the notebook, first of all grub shows the typical blue gentoo bootup screen

Update: no need to switch to LILO after all. There are similar patches for grub.
