[SOLVED] Gentoo "masked packages"

  • Quote

Post by Ezzet » Sat May 21, 2005 11:33 am

Without help I don't know what to do next! I change /etc/make.conf: ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="~x86" and terminal messages here:

bash-2.05b# emerge -pv rt2500
These are the packages that I would merge, in order:
Calculating dependencies ...done!
[ebuild N ] net-wireless/wireless-tools-28_pre6 -multicall +nls 215 kB
[ebuild N ] net-wireless/rt2500-1.1.0_beta2-r1 +qt 286 kB

bash-2.05b# emerge net-wireless/rt2500-1.1.0_beta2-r1
Calculating dependencies
!!! Problem in net-wireless/rt2500-1.1.0_beta2-r1 dependencies.
!!! "Specific key requires an operator (net-wireless/rt2500-1.1.0_beta2-r1) (try adding an '=')" exceptions

Yritin vielä seuraavalla komennolla:
bash-2.05b# ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="~x86" emerge -pv net-wireless/rt2500-1.1.0_beta2-r1
These are the packages that I would merge, in order:
Calculating dependencies
!!! Problem in net-wireless/rt2500-1.1.0_beta2-r1 dependencies.
!!! "Specific key requires an operator (net-wireless/rt2500-1.1.0_beta2-r1) (try adding an '=')" exceptions

What's wrong or missing?

Have you even bothered to read the error message? It clearly says: try adding an '='. So do

Code: Select all

emerge =net-wireless/rt2500-1.1.0_beta2-r1
and it will work just fine. Note the additional =. You need to add an equals sign whenever you specify a particular version of a package and not just the package name.

Your brain ?
It tells you twice what you should do:
!!! "Specific key requires an operator (net-wireless/rt2500-1.1.0_beta2-r1) (try adding an '=')"
Seems pretty clear to me.

Don't use ~x86 - you have a long way to go yet.

EDIT: Damn mooch, you feeding the newbies again ? :P

Thank you - maybe I'm blind or tired or both :D

If that were for you to decide, then I might lend you some credence.. but it's not.
I'm not sure I have to explain my sarcasm to you, especially since it wasn't directed at you in the first place.
I have crossed paths with mooch before, and have never said a harsh word to or about him - so I confidently assume I can make a joke.
If the "newbie" finds offense with my words then let him speak for himself, please... don't give me that "forum police" crap.

You're too serious.

We say here "the flower of humor is the most beautiful flower in the world"!
Please forgive me my poor english - i really didn't understand that "error message" and I knew that the question was a little bit stupid. I'm so new with Gentoo that every step to go on feels very good!

Got it now? Or is there "another" brain we have to search for? There is absolutely no need to insult people for asking a question (even if you/we consider it a stupid one). I'm pretty sure there is no person in this world that didn't ask a stupid question in their life.
