Team Fortress (Original Quake) on Linux?

Howdy,

I've been craving some fragging recently and my mind started drifting back to my good 'ole days of Team Fortress. Not the new TF for half-life, I'm talking about the original one based on the quake engine. I remember mainly playing scout, those were some good times :D. I think it was the first real online game I played regularily, I enjoyed the whole team aspect. Does anyone still play this game and is it available on Linux by any means? If so that'd be amazing 8)

I remember being in a clan I think called Project or something similar. Just share your thoughts on this classic if you wish, currently walking down memory lane....

emerge quakeforge
then just connect to a tf server and let it download all the files you need. 8)

you'll also need pak0.pak from your quake1 cd.

holler back if you have trouble, i still play quakeworld tf 8)

from what I gather I can use the pak0.pak from the shareware site because I'm not sure if I ever even had a legit copy of quake back in the day... those were my trouble warez days too so it's likely

Where would I end up putting the pak file anyhow? quakeforge is currently compiling

EDIT: Uh yeah, realised after it finished the install where to put it, but whats a good server to hook up on?

use XQF to find servers 8)

and yeah the QF ebuild should give you the shareware pak, you need the pak1.pak from the quake1 cd. should be able to play tf with just what quakeforge gives you.

Any particular servers you suggest? I just got it all working yesterday but didn't really play much before I had other things to do.

I'm going to have to edit the cfg to get it the way I used to have it ; )

I remember hating MegaTF but there seems to be an awful lot of those servers : /

Maybe it's better now *shrug*. Also, I remember glquake looking nicer than what I get through qw-client-glx. Anything I gotta do, or maybe I've just forgotten

Thanks,
What class do you generally play anyhow?

you should check out ETF. It's as close to the original TF you can get; with updated graphics.

http://www.etfgame.com

or try:
emerge enemy-territory-fortress

etf is pretty much dead. The devs don't care about the community and it shows.
It had potential though.

I usually play on:
64.156.64.3:27520 -=Zap=- East 2fort5 / vote MegaTF
209.242.32.34:27500 Biscuit MegaTF East I Frag Stats!

usually as engineer.
