Mike_McCready wrote:When I type: emerge e

I get the error that there are no masked or unmasked ebuilds to satisfy "e".

How do I get the E ebuild?
The package is not called "e" but "enlightenment-cvs"

Edit:
Ooopsss! My bad

Code: Select all

ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="~x86" emerge -p e
actually yields the core E17 components....
Always learning, heheh

Whooot! ;)

Congrats, that ebuild ("e") is a nice piece of work.
My fonts really look beautiful now (freetype 2.1.4), better than in any wm I#ve tried so far.
Which is odd because I always thougt it's X not the wm that renders fonts...
Anyway, though I'm using xfce4 as my everyday wm, I'll stick with e for a while just for the beauty of it.

All right, I decided to give E17 a new try but... emerge doesn't seem to be able to find the packages on any mirror I try...
Could you people point me to a repositary containing them?

I find E17 laggy, cpu usage is high for me.

I still prefer the boxes :P
I used from blackbox -> openbox -> fluxbox and now using hackedbox
hackedbox is a stripped down blackbox, speed and performance.

I thought they were distributed mirror-wide. Using your mirror of course works.
Thanks

Yes I noticed... Perhaps I'll try adding a shade button on the window bar and see if it responds to that.
BTW, it seems that E17 doesn't care at all about the new xfree (it has it's own pointers and what's even stranger I don't have the keyboard layout problems with lost keys).

Hi

I seems as if the default theme is broken regarding shde in/shade out. I installed another theme and it now works as it should :)

Best Regards

I'm trying to use entrance but it gives me an error that I am using a wrong username/password combo though I'm sure it's right. My question is whether anyone else has managed to get entrance to work or whether it's still non functional. My assumption is that I am doing something wrong in configuring it. For example entranced seems to be some kind of listenining daemon for entrance but I have no idea of how to use it. Any nudges towards a place to find the correct way of using it and/or manual would be appreciated.
Of all the things I lost, I miss my mind the most.

I don't know how it's supposed to be used but I played around with it last night (by running it from the command line ;)) and noticed that unless it was run as root it complained the password was wrong.

When ran as root it would crash instead of starting the wm.

Hi

It is sort of working fine here. I had to change the pam file a bit to get it to work on my computer. My /etc/pam.d/entrance file looks like this:

Code: Select all

auth required /lib/security/pam_stack.so service=system-auth debug
auth required /lib/security/pam_env.so debug
auth required /lib/security/pam_unix_auth.so debug
account required /lib/security/pam_unix_acct.so debug
password required /lib/security/pam_unix_passwd.so shadow debug
session required /lib/security/pam_stack.so service=system-auth debug
I have another problem with entrance. My ~/.e/behavior/match.db is corrupted if I start entranced with an ini script which results in e17 crash and I can't start it again unless I delete match.db.
I works if I start entrance manually with root as "# entranced -nodaemon".

you guys could edit /etc/rc.conf and set DISPLAYMANAGER to 'elogin' or 'entrance' depending on which you want ...

then just run `rc-update add xdm default` and `/etc/init.d/xdm start`

ill look at the entrance problems later today/tomorrow ...

I had the password problem too. I changed my password to a letters-only one (no numbers nor other characters), and it worked... It's not a beautiful solution though...

hi
i've been playing around with enlightenment-17 and i like it a lot
i have a problem with my ciustom iconbar though, maybe you can spot the problem.

so, I've made a new iconbar, basically a modification of the cuddletech one with a different colour, scrolling arrows and italian text.

the scrolling works, but my icons won't go farther than about 300 pixels from the beginning of the bar to the right. (I had this problem with the original cuddletech iconbar too, I added the scrolling thing to see if i could get it to work that way)

since a picture is worth 1000 words here is a shot of the iconbar
http://sharazad.dyndns.org/antonio/icon ... a-shot.png
I can scroll the icons as much as i want to the left (at least i can get them all off-screen) but that's the max they will go to the right

this is my is the iconbar iconbar
and this is the custom layout.db i use layout

this problem is sort of depressing, as it look like something awfully simple that I simply can't see, can you help ?

edit note: i removed the image as maybe not everyone is intrested in downloading 100k every time they see this page, click on the link too see it, sorry for the inconvenience

Even after following the cuddletech docs, Etcher isn't letting me position iconbars right/top/bottom.

Iconbar ./build_iconbar.sh does generate .e/desktop/0/.e_layout/ iconbar.db to my specifications.

If anyone can assist in unlocking the secrets of layout.db, icon.bits.db greatly appreciated.

how are the ebuilds going for enlightenment?... what do i need to do to install e17 without doing the random hacks that i did last year (oh man, my first post looks tottaly horrible come to think about it)

from browsing the thread quickly... i gather that i just do
USE="~x86" emerge e
yah? :)

also what are the other programs out there... like that entrance and so forth? plz enlighen me :) (no pun intended)

USE="~x86" emerge e

Yep, emerge grabs the source for meds, etcher, ebony etc, compiles the binaries

Just add you're exec to .xinitrc and up pops e17!

Are you logged on as 'root' ?

If so, create a new user via:

http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?t=83

cp /root/.xinitrc /home/<new user>

Logoff as root, logon as the new user, welcome to e17

first, check if u got fam running... libefsd needs fam to be running b4 u start e17

when i first installed e17... all i could get working was the left click menu... from what i could remember, there wans't much after that... i find e17 still very "un-usable" (is that even a word o_O) so i'm going to stick with kde till e17 matures out a bit :D

oh ye... and that shade bug annoys the day lights out of me :P i hope they fix that soon...
