TV Cards

Okay, need some suggestions. I want a TV card that is compatible with gentoo linux, but also has a remote. The compatibility with the remote is a plus, but if it isn't possible, I can dig it.

hauppauge pvr-250.

works great with ivtv driver. capture right to mpeg2. remote control works too.

i use one i love it.

pvr-350 has fm tuner and mpeg decoder for tv out. aparently the mpeg decoder is not that hot, so i would recomment the pvr-250.

I'm using a 350 in a set-top MythTV box, and it works great. I went hardware decode because I wanted to have a quiet, small and cheap system. It's running on a 1MHz C3 in a mini-itx form factor. If only I had gotten a quieter hard drive...

Anyway, the PVR350 decoder works great, looks great.

If the comp you are using is slow, I would recommend the 350, since the decoding is done on the hardware, as opposed to using your CPU, if you have CPU to spare, then the 250...

The Wintv- PVR-250 uses the same cpu power has the Wintv-PVR-350 (For video recording) because they both have hardware mpeg encoders.
If you want to use a budget software card check out the Wintv-Go cards that take up more cpu usage .The only Difference of the two cards in question is the PVR-350 mpeg decoding for s-video out . So I use Nvidia S-video out which has mpeg s-video decoding hardware. With my PVR-250. as Noted here http://www.hauppauge.com/Pages/compare_pvr.html

i think i am gonna get a 350 for the tv out anyway. i want to see the myth window on my tv not just the output of my dxr3. i went with a diskless box to eliminate hd noise. it is quite quiet with a fan controller. i can seem to get away without a fan, maybe a big heat sink on the card or peltier but that is another day.
