Cannot install an GRP from cd after emerge --sync

Problems with emerge or ebuilds? Have a basic programming question about C, PHP, Perl, BASH or something else?

Cannot install an GRP from cd after emerge --sync

I want to install Open Office from my package-cd. But since I did an

Code: Select all

emerge --sync
emerge does not find any file on the cd anymore.
On

Code: Select all

mount /mnt/cdrom
export PKGDIR="/mn/cdrom"
emerge --usepkgonly openoffice
it says
!!! There are no packages available to satisfy: "openoffice"
!!! Either add a suitable binary package or compile from an ebuild.
What do I have to do for portage recognizing my binary package on cd?

Alebo

emerge sync as got you the ebuilds for the latest Open Office and everything else.
The files on the CD are too old to match the latest sync.

You need to use the portage tree from the CD or emerge Open Office via the web.

Is there no way to tell portage to install a special file, even if it is not in the portage tree?

Alebo,

Old ebuilds are not dropped because new ones come out but they are pruned from time to time.
use

Code: Select all

emerge =package-version
to emerge the version of your chioce.

Don't get into this habit as your portagr tree is ahead of the GRP in lots of areas.
You need to get consistant again.
