how can i listen to music on xmms and play a game on cedega
dmix doesnt work (even though i use alsa with cedega), it must use duplex and take over the whole mixing device
esd and arts r just too slow and dont get enough resources

You probably have i810 or VIABLABLABLA audio, in which case, I'd like to know the answer, too.

Do you always have problems with sounds, like gaim won't do noises when xmms is playing?

In otherwords, is this just a problem with cedega, or is it a problem with all of your applications?

Cedega works fine with dmix.

Code: Select all

[winealsa]
"pcm0" = "dmixer" #the name of your dmix-enabled device
"ctl0" = "default" #works for me, yours may be specially configured
"UseMMap" = "N" # just because it's not as stable
In XMMS, make sure your enabled ALSA device is "dmixer" or your custom name, with the volume control set however you like.

no my device is called default (not dmixer)
and yes i configured xmms correctly.. but cedega still uses full duplex taking over the whole card

EDIT: actually i made it default now (in transgaming's config) and now the sound is just veryyy slow

the dmixer plugin and i can e.g. play 2 mp3 files at the same time

This is probably obvious, but make sure that Wine/Cedega is actually using alsa

from the Wine/Cedega config file.

Code: Select all

[WinMM]
"Drivers" = "winealsa.drv"

do you know one for pcmcia or with usb? i need it for my notebook... and don't get me wrong, but if it is possible to do this
without spending money, it is tempting for me to try out all possibilities.
