Cannot Install Gentoo through livecd

I have tried to install gentoo using the LiveCd like it said in the manual. But when i try to boot off it, nothing happens. I have checked the md5 sum and have made more than one burn or different files.
Is there a way to install gentoo on a networked machine without the LiveCd?
I already have a linux system (Linspire) installed but I want to install Gentoo over it. I have already erased the partions.

So when you boot from the CD, you just get a blank screen?

Did you burn it as an image file? That was my first hangup....heh. Didnt read that.

when i start the computer it says:

boot from floppy...not found
boot from cd...Ok

Then nothing happens.

Sounds like maybe you just copied the iso onto the disk instead of burning the image. Ever had problems booting from the cdrom before?

Double check your burning steps to make sure you select burn image

i burned it right. no i have never had a cdrom boot problem before.

I have a Pentium Pro 200/MMX box. with a very stupid propriatary cdrom boot-loader, it won't boot any Boot-CD I have, especially Gentoo which is what I want to run on this box. Is there a Boot-Disk HOWTO for booting to the Gentoo LiveCD?

Burning it at 4x worked thanks. I have a question about the actuall install too. I got the the step were you run

It has been running for over 10 hours. is this normal?

How fast is your computer? On my Pentium M, I'm done with emerge system at around the fifty minute mark.

raven: I had the same kind of problem. Use the Smart Boot Manager floppy. That thing works wonders. I'll see if I can get a link for you, but you can find the thing everywhere, because it will fix just about anything related to booting from CD. Most linux distro sites mirror it.

Anyway, just put in the CD and the floppy, tell your BIOS to boot from floppy, then, once the floppy boots, select "boot from CD" and it should magically fix your problems.

its around a 400mhz amd i think with a small 6 gb harddrive

Make sure your make.conf is writen for performance.
