NuBe: Is there a big difference between Xorg and XFree86?

So, I've run linux for years on my servers, but I've only just decided to run it as my desktop, and I've never installed a GUI before.

I looked around and got FluxBox installed, a lot of people here seem to like it.. and I have to agree..

But, I'm trying to figure out the X backend, is there a big difference with Xorg over XFree?

I can't for the life of me get the alpha blending to work.

I did manage to get the ATI radeon drivers installed and doing dual screen. So I can't be that far off.

Any suggestions?

I don't know about the X11 vs Xfree thing, but I can probably help you out with your Fluxbox quandary. What are you attempting that your alpha blending isn't working?

Try this: right-click on the desktop, go to fluxbox menu/Configure/Toolbar/Alpha. It'll probably say 255 next to the word Alpha. Left-click on this line in the menu for a while until the number gets into the 100-150 range. You should see your background start to bleed through.

If you're trying to make a change to one of the alpha values in the Transparency menu, you'll have to restart Fluxbox before the change will show up.
