xorg and i810...

  • Quote

Post by Mr. Valentine » Fri Mar 18, 2005 2:07 pm

Hi folks,

I was wondering when it is expected that the 2005.0 release will come out?

The reason is, I have the i810 chipset and I can't get my display to work with the Gentoo I tried to install (2004.3)

The problem is when I start KDE things are messed up, I can't see the contents of windows very well, borders of windows are gone in some places and icons in the menus have no text.

So I heard the newer release will have an updated version of X.org which happens to have updated i810 support?

Is this the case?

Thanks for any help,

Sincerely,

Mr. V

Hi! I don't know when the new live cd will be out, but if you're impatient, you can also use Knoppix as installation medium. And can't you choose text mode with the live cd boot parameters or something?

You should have searched the forums before posting. This question is one of the most commonly asked around here.

No, that is not true.

You will get the latest version of Xorg just by doing

Code: Select all

emerge --sync && emerge -u xorg-x11
I'm sad to note that your first thread and post in these forums is also your first to end up in the duplicates heap.

Changed title to avoid moving to dups :)

The release of 2005.0 might only help you with that problem if for some reason you have to use GRP packages.

I did search, I found out that it was supposed to be released already that's why I asked.

I also tried to solve my display problem by going to the IRC channel but nobody is willing to give me the time of day.

I'm trying here...

Ok. Well, according to this it won't take too long until 2005.0 is available.

As i advice most people and that works try the ~x86'ed xorg-x11 6.8.2, it fixed most of my i8xx based onboard Graphics issues.

Code: Select all

echo ">=x11-base/xorg-x11-6.8.2-r1 ~x86" >> /etc/portage/package.keywords && emerge xorg-x11
Gentoo 2006.0 + NPTL + 2.6.15-r1-sources + gcc 3.4.4 100% built. glibc 2.3.5.
