I have quite a good connection, but when I emerge anything, it is soooooo slow.
I tried to emerge mirrorselect, but it is masked. Do I have to add MIRROR_SELECT myself in /etc/make.conf, or is there another way to select another server? ... is it really a matter of serve ???

add the flag GENTOO_MIRRORS to /etc/make.conf with a server near you...
you can see the list of mirrors here: http://www.gentoo.org/main/en/mirrors.xml
you can also change the rsync mirror by adding the flag SYNC
example of use:
GENTOO_MIRRORS="ftp://mirrors1.netvisao.pt/gentoo ftp://ftp.gentoo-pt.org/pub/gentoo/"
SYNC="rsync://darkstar.ist.utl.pt rsync://rsync.gentoo-pt.org/gentoo-portage"
