Hello there chaps.

I've looked at fuhquake, quakeforge and quake1(the one in portage), but i can't decide which one to use.
Which one do you prefer? And why? :)

It has to be Fuhquake.

It has lots of new eye-candy such as support for 24-bit textures, fancy exposions, skyboxes, etc. It has lots of new teamlplay features, it's fast, it's stable, and you can customise almost everything about it. It and mqwcl are the only two clients allowed in competitive play. It supports MVD playback. It supports MP3 playback via XMMS. It's well documented too.

Quakeworld.nu recently ended a client-related poll and it showed 87% of members use Fuhquake of some kind.

If you're into eye-candy, FuhQuake for sure. Otherwise quakeforge is a nice, simple *nix-focused nq and qw client.

Fuhquake isn't all about eyecandy, but it's real nice it got support for it.
If you really want eyecandy use Tenebrae.

What fuhquake brings is a client that have a security module and a built in ruleset for competitions as well as all the extra nice functionality.

Fuhquakes readme contains aliases for degeneration style graphics. Classic Lego style.
If you want that.

Yea maybe I overstated the eye-candy thing a little. I play in software at 320x200 with absolutely no graphical niceness whatsoever, it's the range of other features which appeal to me.

ezquake

Has all the features of fuhquake and more (custom HUD, evdev mouse, better vsync, etc). However its not allowed in as many leagues so I still use fuhquake.
