Gentoo PPC on Motorola Powerstack II (Bull Estrella)

Hi @all

I've been able to install Gentoo PPC on a Motorola Powerstack II (Bull Estrella 300??!!)

It's a PREP based machine.

So I would like to write a HOWTO for this machine and create a LiveCD for this little beast

Can somebody help me with this project ?

I have two powerstacks at home doing nothing. Would be interesting to install Gentoo on them.

What about your manual? Any progress?

did you manage to get X working correctly ?

I tried a bit around with the Kernel and 2.6.8 seems to work but the framebuffer does not work as it should... the framebuffer in 2.6.10 works but there is an errror with the PCI<->IRQ stuff i think and so the kernel wont start beacuse of problem with scsi and network...

In the linux ppc mailinglist there was a post about that problem just yesterday

I hope they will resolve that problem

I and seas have access to a quad xeon to compile the kernel so we can test new kernels quite fast

We have debian working on the powerstacks by now but only with very old kernel and no X (or wth an even older Kernel and X 3.3 or so )

it seems that the debain 2.6.10 kernel works (i haven't tried it yet... )

I will try to install with this kernel today or tomorrow...

Hey there,

I'm a Bull person (i work there) and have installed it on the novascales (ia64).
but i haven't got an estrala here to test it on.

A how to would be appreciated, and the livecd you can create with catalyst

I will try it again when the kernel 2.6.10 really works and also try to create a livecd but i wont have much time since i won't have much internet access or access to my powerstack untill this weekend...

I could also start building a live cd with the working 2.6.8 kernel but i think it is better to start directly with 2.6.10 (because the cirrusfb finnally works as it should it seems in 2.6.10..)
