MUD Server operating on Port 80?

I know I know, I'm a bit old fashion and I still enjoy MUDs. I learned to type playing MUDs. Right now I'm stuck in Iraq and I'm bored out of my mind. I would like to play a good MUD again, but I can't get to the typical MUD ports through the proxy. Does anyone know of a MUD server running on port 80 that I can get to through this proxy? If anyone knows a good way around a proxy that would be nice too.

Thats a good question. You could try asking around at www.mudconnect.com, they probably have more knowledge of which muds are out there.

I run a MUD but it on port 5000. You could use nethack as an alternative. Another thing you can do it run a server on the machine you are using and connect to it. You won't be able to play with anyone but if you pick the right codebase you will have plenty of mobs to mow down and level up with. I maintain the ResortMud codebase and I recommend it.

i don't know how to get this thing with the port working, but you can try achaea. they have their online javainterface. maybe you can directly use it.

Well, thanks for your assistance. Unfortunately anything beyond setting up a server on my computer and playing that way it doesn't look like I'm going to be playing any MUDs.

so the client of achaea doesn't work in your case?

No unfortunately it's a java client but it still attempts to connect through the MUD port.
