When I run xdm/gdm/kdm and login, it doesn't actually load anything--it just returns me back to the login screen. This is regardless of who I login as and what session I try to start.
I don't have the solution to your problem Vortex instead I have a question, I just got my very first Gentoo install working [mostly] and I had to abort emerging gdm because of a wierd hang and I just wanted to know if simply emerging gdm will set it up as the login manager or if I have to do anything to a config file?
PS. Even though I'm stuck using KDE at the moment on my system because of the lack of a 64bit flash plugin [Damned macromedia.] I really like portages concept, the USE flag thing is just wonderful.
PSS. Is there any type of error message at all like "your session lasted less than ten seconds"? That's the one I usually get when gdm doesn'f find my WM [usually gnome or XFCE.]
