WMA to mp3?

  • Quote

Post by flaZh » Mon Feb 21, 2005 4:22 am

I can't get any players to actually play these wma files that I've bought. Winamp in WinXP will play them, none of my Linux players will(vlc, xine, mplayer, kmplayer).

I think it has something with DRM protection or something. Therefor I wish to convert these to mp3, for my phones and mp3-players to play it. But it's not that simple.. I was thinking of one solution, burn wma files then rip them off again? Anyone got any other solution for me? I've tried some wma to mp3 programs in Windows, no luck. As for now they're unplayable in Gentoo.

Did you buy 'em through musicmatch? Napster?

There's some... uhm programs of undetermined legality... that we may be unable to talk about on these forums. :?

I'd suggest googling something in the arena of 'DRM napster (or music match) removal".

Easy fix if you can play them in winamp:
Play them in winamp, set your output to a output file wrapper instead of your soundcar (I know from my windows time winamp has this setting somewhere, just look around)

Probably looks like this:
picture (I thought you could display pictures here, what is the code for that?)

Now make your wav files available under linux and go play with your favourite wav to mp3 converter.
only when it is dark enough, can you see the stars

Thanks for answers. No I didn't buy them off Napster or another type of peer to peer sharing. I bought them off www.musikkonline.no - and the licence said that I could burn them 6 times and so on. But I'll try the Winamp trick right away.

You'll lose some quality re-encoding them, but other than that it's pretty simple.

Always remember... if you can hear it then you can capture it, even if all that means is running a cable from the line out of one PC to the line in of another. DRM can never stop that.

isn't there a WMA/WMV encoder on the M$ page? maybe with the help of that you could recode your WMA, or convert it to MP3. although i don't really think it will support encoding it to MP3 or something else than WMA/WMV.
