Only if you have a Radeon 9600 or under I think, or are the 9600 even supported. I think the 9600 and above arent supported. Check the kernel docs to verify. I dont think they added support for more cards, just tweaked the ones already supported, could be wrong though, havent researched it yet.truekaiser wrote:so does this mean i can stop useing the non updated kernel radeon drivers?

the r200 is the card i am useing aka the m7 radeon 7500. currently shadows work fine as long as they are not the hard edge ones. though after a while of use the xserver does crash. transparencey heh glacers move faster then this thing.Lokheed wrote:Only if you have a Radeon 9600 or under I think, or are the 9600 even supported. I guess the only way to see is by diving intruekaiser wrote:the r200 is the card i am useing aka the m7 radeon 7500. currently shadows work fine as long as they are not the hard edge ones. though after a while of use the xserver does crash. transparencey heh glacers move faster then this thing.Lokheed wrote:Only if you have a Radeon 9600 or under I think, or are the 9600 even supported. Anything above the 9200 is unsupported, I believe.Lokheed wrote:Only if you have a Radeon 9600 or under I think, or are the 9600 even supported. I think the 9600 and above arent supported. actualy it's a r200Hypnos wrote:The M7 is R100 ("radeon" driver) in X jargon; the chips driven by "ati" are R200+.
rv200 / M7
* Radeon 7500 (DDR)
* FireGL 7800 (Mobile)
The 7500 has a tweaked core, more RAM and higher clock speeds (possible due to a manufacturing process shrink).

There are no xorg drivers in the kernel.raylpc wrote:how do I use the Xorg's radeon driver instead of the one that under the dri section in the kernel?
I have a mobility 9000, and I want to use xcomposite with hardware acceleration. Currently, the radeon driver from the kernel disables the hardware acceleration once the composite extension is enabled. Thus the translucent and shadow effects are super slow.
i'm compiling, too.gentoo_lan wrote:I am compiling now. So we will see how it goes. I would look at the changelogs for any changes or improvements in the newer versions.
