Strange error

Post by Gwyd10n » Fri Feb 04, 2005 11:53 pm

I am getting a strange error now when ever I try to recompile a new kernel.
It fails on every module

Code: Select all

make
  CHK include/linux/version.h
make[1]: `arch/i386/kernel/asm-offsets.s' is up to date.
  CHK include/linux/compile.h
dnsdomainname: Host name lookup failure
  CHK usr/initramfs_list
Kernel: arch/i386/boot/bzImage is ready
  Building modules, stage 2.

I've done a make mrproper, even gone as far as cleaning out the source and emerging it again
I still get the same error...

Any ideas on where to look?
Oh.. running gentoo-dev-sources on a P4

This is very interesting, does it do this with different kernel versions?

I've not tried that. I will check on it to see...
I'll post my results when I have them...

One thing I forgot to mention. This error started after an update to portage...

I can emerge just fine, it just seems that the kernel is problem.

Have you tried deleting your old modules before recompiling ?

Code: Select all

# rm -r /lib/modules/`uname -r`
