I dont know what to do! :) Can anyone suggest how I can get evolution emerged?

I cant seem to be able to compile most anything right now... im getting segfaults and other breakages in numerous packages. im sorry but if this continues ill be switching distros.., portage is a great idea but isnt worth not being able to install applications i need. im very disapointed right now as ive comitted a TON of time trying to get this box setup the way i want it (kde compiled for around a full day and the entire system up to this point has taken 3)

did you update from kde 3.0 to kde 3.1 before all these problems started ?

if so run the following command:

Code: Select all

find / -name '*.la' | xargs grep -l '/usr/kde/3/lib'
if it reports anything then issue the following command on all the files found:

Code: Select all

qpkg -f <name>
and use emerge to re-emerge all the packages found ... bit of problem to find out the order in which they should be installed, but play with it for a while...

(taken from http://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=14812)

does this help ?

i JUST tried gentoo after the kde 3.2 announcement but ran the find command you suggested anyway: no results.

Its terribly frustrating as I cant install much at all anymore... evolution just failed as did about a donen others... i tried to do an 'emerge sync' 'emerge -u world' but it fails trying to compile the new qt

Yes - and there were several other problems aswell, most of which are fixed now...

Thanks - I'll try - but the bug you referenced comes up with a "no such bug" error when I click on it

but I'll report back in a few hours once I've got them emerged (hopefully!)

[edit]
Hmmmmm
Most of them seem to be kdevelop... which is understandable I guess - I installed 3.0alpha and portage kept trying to "upgrade" to 2.1.3... ... ...

Code: Select all

dev-util/kdevelop *
kde-base/kdeaddons *
media-libs/libao *
media-libs/libsdl *
media-libs/xine-lib *

Unfortunately, emerging the above packages still havent helped :/

(which doesnt supprise me 'cause one of them is gnome-vfs, which shouldnt have much to do with the kde libs :P)

I deleted the tetex emerge, which enabled a successful emerge -u --deep world

among that, gnome-vfs emerged, as did libmpeg

I have no idea why tetex wants to use mysql, but hey - thats a problem for another day.

I have exactly the same problem. What is pretty annoying is this: I stumbled into it while having to follow http://dev.gentoo.org/~satai/sgmlfix.html because of http://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=23448.

Anyone having a fix for this?

Regards,
Jens

Ok, I have solved the tetex problem at my site. As described at http://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=14709 I have used the "revdep-rebuild" command, after doing so I was able to emerge tetex. Maybe you first want to do a "revdep-rebuild -- -p" to see what it will reemerge.
