qmail. Fast, light, I like the overall look and feel, plus, it works.

Postfix is the best mail server

postfix is the mailserver of choice. It is easily configurable and very secure out of the box.

You can play with number of mail servers, but finally you will use sendmail.

just wish to cast my vote for qmail.. like mentioned above "It works". Could be I'm just a retard, but I've followed every postfix guide I found.. none of them work... qmail simply works.. very little setup involved.. and very secure..

qmail - vpopmail - courier-imap - spamassassin/clamd + qmailadmin, can something be more better?
Just because I have nothing to say is no reason why you shouldn't listen.

Here is another vote for Postfix :P

I found it easy to work. Their FAQ is very helpfull BTW. You can have a Postfix server running in no time.

QMail existed before Postfix, meaning Postfix has learned from QMail's mistakes. See here for more info. (one of the first hits in 'google groups' looking for 'postfix qmail')

thank you all for your feedbacks.

i made up my mind and chose qmail. it really seems to be small, compact and stable. but i can't use it at this time:

Qmails license is really ugly...and Postfix's isn't THAT great either but Sendmail's is fine, but my vote is for Postfix in case you decide to change your mind..:)

Almost identical to my setup, except that I also use amavisd to filter my mail through ClamAV (anti-virus) and then use procmail to do the actual delivery.

sendmail --> MailScanner --> cyrus-imap. Works for thousands of users. :)

sendmail --> clamav --> spamassassin --> qpopper

Works fine once you get used to sendmails m4 macro deal. My biggest problem is it'll work for the longest time, then when there is a problem, I'll forget the macro commend to process the changes.

last time I tried using sendmail it couldn't support .maildir mailboxes... I've had no problems with postfix, its reliability and security are top notch.

For now my vote would definitely go to Qmail. Hmm, maybe that is just because I have no experience with Postfix yet. When I was at the point of making a decision I chose Qmail because Postfix seemed a bit “fat”.
Is there any unbiased comparison of Qmail / Postfix performance available on the web; or ... can anyone say something about how Postfix performs on slow pentium class PCs.

It seems that more people are voting postfix than anything else.
Can someone give a sensible comparison between postfix and sendmail feature wise, I currently have

sendmail-sasl>procmail>spamassassin>procmail>dovecot-imaps

Please don't mention ease of setup, because what I have is allready working (ie. no setup involved)
