gnome 2.2 sluggishness

Gnome 2.2 is almost usable for me. However, dragging the icons around, right clicking on the desktop chosing something, then clicking on the menu takes up 100% of my cpu time when doing this. I wouldn't care but X becomes extremely unresponsive until it releases the cpu.

I just unmerged gnome + most of the libraries, along with gnome and it still fails. Doesnt seem like anyone else is having this problem, but this is just impossible for me to use gnome 2.2, which is nice otherwise.

downgrade your nvidia drivers from 4xxx to 3xxx

I am assuming that you are getting hit by the bug that seems to be the most common reason

I have also had similar problems with fam and gnome before. Might want to disable fam and see if that helps.

It's a known bug with the new drivers. Nvidia will hopefully
fix it real soon. For the moment i suggest downgrading.

That did it. I neglected to mention that I had disabled fam, as I couldnt get the theme manager to come up [tho switch2 did a decent job, I guess]. But downgrading the nvidia-kernel & nvidia-glx did an excellent job.. this is much better.

Odd that it really wasn't noticable in kde 3.1 tho.. *shrug*

Thanks everyone!
