1st boot

For some reason trying to login on first boot it's telling me my password is incorrect. How do I get int or change my root password?

I do have the full live cd.

Boot the computer computer from the live CD.

Follow the Gentoo Handbook how to chroot. You don't need to reformat your partitions or install any stages, everything is already working. In your new environment just do the following command

Code: Select all

 passwd

.
After you changed it, just type

Code: Select all

 exit

and

Code: Select all

 reboot -n

Dear n00b,

There have been countless novices before you who have asked this very question.

You will do well to minimise the wastage of forum resources, by searching for an answer first.

kimchi yes, I receive the noob title from just beginning here, but as if you look at my other post before this one I did help as this is my second day working with gentoo I don't know much about it. I've been working with slackware for a while and starting from stage one seems a bit overwhelming. If you really paid attention to my post, and the link which you copied, has very little to do to help my situation being the fact that I CANNOT login.

Yes, I did use the search for a few things. Damnist thing though, there are many topics for that same situation, also the search functions usually return such threads that have nothing to do with such topics queried.

the gentoo search isnt too efficient. sometimes google returns better results.

Yes duck I noticed.

Well after the advice of the first guy I was able to finish the install, then recompile the kernel. Now I'm trying to get it working correctly.

I'll be at this a while.

OK, I admit Search does have its faults. You need to tweak keywords a lot before it will get decent matches sometimes.

If the problem is solved, as it seems to be, please edit the title of this topic, and insert [SOLVED] into it.
