Wine & kernel 2.6.9

  • Quote

Post by yogipsu » Tue Nov 16, 2004 12:58 am

Odd problem w/ using wine in the most recent kernel versions, as when I attempt to run the program with any 2.6.9 series kernel (gentoo-dev-sources and ck-sources too), I get the following error:

Code: Select all

yogi@gentoo ~ $ wine .wine/fake_windows/Program\ Files/Warcraft\ III/war3.exe -opengl
/usr/bin/wine: line 55: 11734 Trace/breakpoint trap WINEDEBUG=-all "$RUNWINE" "$@"
Kernel 2.6.8-r10 runs WC3 without any problems.

I already have the following set:

Code: Select all

yogi@gentoo ~ $ cat /proc/sys/vm/legacy_va_layout 1
Anyone have similar experiences or possibly fixes other than downgrading the kernel and/or waiting for a new wine release?

edit: The wine in question is:

Code: Select all

[ebuild R ] app-emulation/wine-20041019 +X +alsa -arts +cups -debug -jack -nas +ncurses +opengl -tcltk 10,804 kB
edit: Same problem with development-sources 2.6.10_rc1.

Just tried wine-20041019-r3 ...

Code: Select all

yogi@gentoo ~ $ wine .wine/fake_windows/Program\ Files/Warcraft\ III/war3.exe
fixme:ole:ITypeInfo_fnRelease destroy child objects
Trace/breakpoint trap
And here's a bit of the output from WINEDEBUG=all ... absolutely no idea how relevant it is; it complained about not finding ntdll.dll, which I loaded into c:\windows\system, and this is what spewed out:

Code: Select all

0009:Ret  kernel32._EnterSysLevel() retval=403fe2c0 ret=406981e0
0009:trace:gdi:GDI_GetObjPtr (0x108): enter 4

i get the same error, i'm using 2.6.9-nitro4 and whenever i try to run a glxi application i get

Code: Select all

shiven@envy ~ $ glxinfo
name of display: :0.0
Trace/breakpoint trap
obviously thats just glxinfo lol, but i found (using strace glxinfo | less):

Code: Select all

name of display: :0.0
display: :0 screen: 0
direct rendering: Yes
server glx vendor string: SGI
server glx version string: 1.2
<snip>
so i figure something is up the wall... hopefully a resolve will turn up soon.. its quite annoying not having dri working without that error lol

Odd. Well, I tried ck-sources and got the same error, and I'm up to gentoo-dev-sources-2.6.9-r8 and the problem's still not resolved. I've also upgraded to the new wine (20041201) and it persists...

For what it's worth, when I mount the CD and run the autoplay.exe there, it detects the installation, but when I try to run Warcraft or FT, it says the CD isn't detected. Same with when I try to run Warcraft\ III.exe or Frozen\ Throne.exe in the installation directory.

I'm completely at a loss here. Can anyone maybe point me in a direction?

This is (unfortunately) simply status, not a solution: still no joy with gentoo-dev-sources-2.6.10-r4/wine-20041019. Tried emerging wine-20041201 but it fails to compile cleanly on my system.

My system's behavior is identical to yours: the installation is detected, but CD detection fails regardless of where I attempt to start the executable from. Back to 2.6.8-r10 I go...

As an aside, the CD detection for D2:LoD works just fine.

Anyone had any luck with this without using a crack or a TransGaming product?
