Sil3112 Not working, at all.

I have an asus a7n8x deluxe motherboard. I want to use the integrated sil3112, with my two maxtor harddrives. I have the following compiled
[*]Serial ata support Config_scsi_sata
[*]Nvidia Sata support Config_scsi_sata_nv
[*]Silicon Image Sata Support Config_SCSI_sata_sil
I have made certain that Config_blk_dev_siimage is disabled.
Kernel 2.6.9-ck3
The trouble is that my machine refuses to boot with my satadrives connected. At first I suspected that my satacables might be defective, so I went out and purchased two new ones. This does not change anything. My machine still refuses to boot. What could this be?

Strange indeed. I don't have it set to boot from scsi though. I have gentoo on a pata disc, the sata discs are a spanned windows partition that I need to acces. I could understand if the discs were unreadable, but I can't understand that the computer refuses to boot when the sata discs are connected.

It stops booting right after I select the appropriate entry from grub. Not in the "couldn't find kernel" mode, but i just boots into a black screen. Without any further activity.

And when you disconnect the sata devices it just boots, right?
Does using a kernel without sata support make a difference?

That is correct. The system boots fine with the sata drives connected, when running a kernel without sata support.

What bios version are you using? I have a suspicion that it might be the bios. I bought the motherboard when it first came out, so i assume I have the first released bios available.
