Etcat seems to have suddenly stopped working:
megumi shorewall # etcat -u courier-imap

AttributeError: Package instance has no attribute 'get_use_vars'

megumi shorewall # emerge --search courier-imap

Etcat has worked before (about a week ago), so I think something is wrong with some of the files on my system. Can anyone please help me track down the problem? I don't think the supplied error is sufficient for a bug report.

You could try upgrading to the latest gentoolkit, but etcat is being deprecated, so they probably won't do anything with your bug report.

You can use something like this instead:

Code: Select all

equery list -i -p -o net-mail/courier-imap

The equery tool also very nicely explains the meaning of most of the USE flags (equery uses net-mail/courier-imap). Very nice!

Then I won't submit a bug report and stop using the etcat tool :)
Thx for your reply!

Equery seems to be a better tool (at least more intuitive), Now if features like glsa are just implemented... :(

boo! bring back etcat!

i don't know why, but i can't stand equery. the only thing i use it for is to find a particular ebuild. equery which foo. for USE stuff i use euse, and everything else is a combination of dep and genlop.

if equery had the versions function that etcat does, then i'd switch. i can't find any other utility that does the same as etcat -v foo.

I agree, hopefully many of the features most of us use all the time, just to maintain a Gentoo system, will move from the gentoolkit into Portage

Not exactly the same but close:

Code: Select all

equery list -p foo

hey, that's pretty cool. i like how it doesn't just display package foo but anything containing foo. the only problem is things like..

Code: Select all

a very useful tip though, i've aliased it as 'elist' to find packages that i would otherwise have to load packages.gentoo.org to sift through. :D

instead of whinging i should probably be filing a bug enhancement req.

What, please, is "dep" --a cmd?, an argument to a cmd?
OMSystem, `which dep' finds nothing...
