Gaim: random crashes (XFCE4)

Post by superiorWANG » Sun Feb 29, 2004 11:31 am

Hi Everyone,

gaim 0.75-r10 randomly crashes upon recieving a message or when I try to send a message. The only thing systematic that I can find about the crash is if I send a message, close the conversation window, and then open another conversation window right after from the "buddy list" then it will almost always crash. If I run it from a terminal, I get the following message

Code: Select all

Gaim has segfaulted and attempted to dump a core file.
This is a bug in the software and has happened through
no fault of your own.

It is possible that this bug is already fixed in CVS.
If you can reproduce the crash, please notify the gaim
maintainers by reporting a bug at
http://gaim.sourceforge.net/bug.php

Please make sure to specify what you were doing at the time,
and post the backtrace from the core file. If you do not know
how to get the backtrace, please get instructions at
http://gaim.sourceforge.net/gdb.php. If you need further
assistance, please IM either RobFlynn or SeanEgn and
they can help you.
Aborted
This has been going on for the last few revisions of gaim. I've tried compiling it with and without the mozilla and gtk2 use flags, but it doesn't seem to make a difference.

Has anyone else had this problem or has possible solution or cause?

What protocols are the crashes coming with? I would not be surprised if you are having an issue with Yahoo, and from what I can glean from talking with the gaim devs it sounds like a lot of code will change as it applies to .76. If it wasn't happening until the revisions of .75, most likely it won't happen in .76 (unless the problem is with something that has changed outside of gaim)

Thanks for the reply!
It's happening with the ICQ protocol.

Any progress on this?

I'm getting the same problem. Gaim opens fine and loads my buddy list but as soon as I type a message and press send it crashes. I'm running XFCE4 and Gaim 0.79.

emerge a new gaim man! I've never had any problems and I'm running xfce4 as well as gaim 0.82. All is good.

BTW, older gaims have less functionality and security exploits as well!!!

Any solution to this problem yet? I've been having the same problem, I start gaim, click an ICQ user, write a message, send it, close the window, and when I click a user name to open the mesg window again it crashes. Or if an ICQ user sends me a msg sometimes it crashes?

It's been happening from gaim .8 and up. Currently running 1.0.2.

My backtrace is all questions marks ??? and I even emerged using the "debug" USE flag...go figure :?

Any help out there?

EDIT: Oh and I'm running openbox not xfce4. And gentoo kernel 2.6.8-r3

I've had the same problem with the msn plugin too. But doesn't alway happen. End up using AMSN if it crashes but would prefer to get gaim working properly again.

Ok, I fixed my random crashes. It ended up being the aspell stuff crashing not gaim. So when I re-emerged gaim -aspell it worked perfect. So then I re-emerged newer masked aspell, version 0.60.1.1, and gaim +aspell agian and it's still working good now.

Everyone give it a shot
