problems with truetype fonts

  • Quote

Post by morpheus » Tue Jan 21, 2003 4:29 pm

I tried to use truetype fonts for getting an antialiased desktop. After some attempts I noticed that the freetype module isn't loaded during X startup. So I added a line

Load "freetype"

in my XF86Config-4 file. But when I start xfontsel now X crashes immediately. Does anyone know what I do wrong? I tried it with 4.2.99.3-r1 and 4.2.99.3-r2.

Hello,

There can be many sources to that problem. What Graphicscard are you using? Does is support the RENDER extensions? StartX and do a

Code: Select all

xdpyinfo | grep -i render
If it says RENDER, then you CAN have antialias fonts. Then the problem might be some wrong setup somewhere.

Goodd Luck,

Hi,

I have the RENDER extension and I have tried it with xtt, too. With xtt xfontsel starts and the X server doesn't crash but when I select a truetype font it can not be displayed.

I'm using fluxbox and when I configure it using antialiasing it shows a font which is really antialiased. But I cannot load any other font, neither truetype nor other fonts.

Because I have a PowerBook with the Radeon 9000 I have to use the snapshop. The stable branch doesn't support the chipset.
