Unreal Tournament bugs - anyone else experience these?

in the windows version, F9 was the screenshot button. pressing F9 in linux closes the game instantly and takes you back to the desktop (with a segfault error). how the hell do i take screens w/o the use of gimp and windowed mode?? it'd be hard to catch one of those priceless moments that way.

when crouching, i'm not able to walk. if i try for to long, my weapon will start firing and wont stop until i change weapons and use the alt fire button a few times. sometimes it won't ever stop. other times, my character will automatically walk forward and i have to exit the game to fix that.

edit: when running in windowed mode, the mouse is able to go off the screen and it's impossible to play. try it. you'll see what i mean.

i notice that the textures are grainier than in the windows version (using the same hardware). the quality is poorer and even with the settings cranked to the max, it's not too great. for example, when looking at the guns in the gun menu under options... they look horrible!!! in windows, they're nicely modeled and highly detailed (even with lower settings).

what's the deal with that? ut2k3 also suffers from both performance and graphical quality when compared with windows (again, same hardware.) is there a reason for this? my wife has a celeron 500 with a voodoo2 and 256mb sdram and her unreal tourney looks better than mine.

can anyone enlighten me?

ryan

I have none of these problems ... works perfectly on my gentoo....even better frame rate than windows & has never crashed after hours of play.

I get better frames and it looks just as good as in windows. Never had an issue.

If i recall, there is a toggle to allow UT to grab the mouse. I think it was a console command. Google should turn up a complete list, as I cannot recall any sites.

Also, you're not using any odd keys for controls, or have any other conflicting keybindings (with your windowmanager) preventing you from doing certain actions?

Grabbing the mouse is an option in ~/.loki/ut/System/UnrealTournament.ini, or something like that. Anyway, I get great performance in UT with my Athlon XP 1600+, 512MB RAM, and GeForce3 Ti200, but even at low resolutions and low quality UT2k3 is real choppy; I'm hoping that that problem gets fixed by the official release.

It's weird how despite having reasonably similar rigs *, your performance is sluggish, while mine was very smooth and pleasant. Hopefully, this means it's a bug, and hopefully, it'll get fixed...

also, any time i start it up, the gamma is really dark and once i open up the vid prefs and click on brightness it snaps back to life.

i changed the left control button to crouch as well as the default C... im used to half-life...

i'll change it back though.

im also getting staticy sound as well... mp3s dont seem to do it (using alsa w/ snd-via8233 module)

thanks,

ryan

CTRL shouldnt do much.. Im using shift for jump, and CTRL for duck...

I used to use the via 686 sound module (forget exact name) for builtin sound on a kt133a board, and the sould wasnt staticy, but still sub-par on louder volumes (when compared with the sb live i have now)

Ut runs perfectly, it runs 4 hours whitout crash, but if I take one screenshot it crashes whit this error...

Signal: SIGSEGV [segmentation fault]
Aborting.
Exiting.
Name subsystem shut down

Allocation checking disabled
Segmentation fault

Its not a big problem, but I thought all linux users had that problem 8O
In my loki system dir, all screenshots files have the size off zero :(

btw screenshot works in UT2003....

I've got the same annoying problem of walking not to stop :( I can solve it by reconnecting to the server but it's _really_ annoying :(.
I haven't compared my performance to windows but my AMD Tbird 1100 + 256MB SDR + GF2 GTS 32MB give sloppish performance. No matter which resolution it gets the same FPS (around 30-40 fps). Weird huh?

I get great framerates, and I had to disable agp due to stability issues...

Heres my specs, to compare, if you want:
Thunderbird 1.2
MSI k7t-turbo (via kt133a)
nvidia geforce2 mx-200 (made by abit) (agp disabled through nvdriver option in XF86Config)
384MB pc133 memory

I have noticed that sometime in RTCW when I play, although very rarely, I will wind up just walking forwards all the time, and the only way to not walk forwards is to push back, which doesn't solve the problem, just delays it till I let go of back. It may be an keyboard input issue.
I have 1600+ and g3ti200 and UT looks good and runs fine, but ut2k3 runs horrid. ONly the inside levels work well, around 40 fps, while outside, no matter the resolution i get at most 13 fps.

At high res I get better fps with ut2k3 than on low res. wierd.

Not sure as compared to windows, I don't have a copy of it.

The screenshot crash is a bug with the loki port. The only way to take an ingame screenshot is if you change your resolution to 640x480. The screenshots will appear as bitmaps in your ~/.loki/System dir

mouse goes haywire intermittantly

Sometimes while I'm moving forward I'll all of a sudden be looking straight up. I'm not moving the mouse when this happens (at least not up). It seemes to happen in the same areas most of the time.

I think it's a mouse issue as it sometimes happens in the startup screen also. The pointer will just jump to the top left hand corner of the screen.

the crashing after taking a screen shot is cause UT tries to take a Windows BMP and linux doesn't like it. Even though it's a bitmap (*.bmp) it can have different 'coding' this is something i found out when using flash.

tried to import a linux .bmp into flash and flash couldn't even see the file.
So i had to open it using MSpaint [washes Hands] (useing Win4Lin [not soo bad]) to convert to a Windows bitmap.

if you want to see what i mean look at a Windows bitMap under linux and see in the file discription Windows Bitmap.

the first ut dies for me..

im there playing in res 1024x768 with my desktop at 1280x1024.. when the game crashes it exits to the desktop with the res still at 1024x768 hence i cant see everything - ctrl+alt+bkspace

wonder what causes that??

i tried in cedega and wine, works for a while but then something weird happens..
my mouse and keyboard stop responding and the screen moves down to the bottom left of the monitor and i cant close the game ctrl+alt+backspace again :(

this is weird, it worked ok with the 2.6.11-r9 kernel, could this be the cause?
