enlightenment doesn't show in GDM sessions menu [solved]

I am trying to get GDM to recognize sessions besides GNOME and TWM, and have already tried several fixes suggested in previous posts. I am using xorg-x11-6.8.0-r1n, gdm-2.4.4.7-r1, gnome-2.6.2-r1, and enlightenment-0.16.6.

Excerpt from /etc/X11/gdm/gdm.conf:

Code: Select all

BaseXsession=/etc/X11/gdm/Xsession
# This is a directory where .desktop files describing the sessions live
# It is really a PATH style variable since 2.4.4.2 to allow actual
# interoperability with KDM
SessionDesktopDir=/etc/X11/Sessions/:/etc/X11/dm/Sessions/:/usr/share/xsessions/
# This is the default .desktop session. One of the ones in SessionDesktopDir
DefaultSession=gnome.desktop
Excerpt from /etc/rc.conf

Code: Select all

# What display manager do you use ?  [ xdm | gdm | kdm | entrance ]
DISPLAYMANAGER="gdm"
# Xsession - will start a terminal and a few other nice apps
XSESSION="enlightenment"
/etc/X11/Sessions/ contains sessions for gnome, xsession, and enlightenment and there is no problem starting enlightenment with "startx". /usr/share/xsessions only had a .desktop file for gnome, adding a enlightenment.desktop file containing the following:

Code: Select all

#!/bin/sh
/usr/bin/enlightenment
still did not get enlightenment listed as an available session in the GDM sessions menu. Some one please help a n00b who's been looking at a screen for too long...Please! 8O

Add enlightenment.desktop in /usr/share/xsession
[Desktop Entry]
Encoding=UTF-8
Name=Enlightenment
Comment=This session logs you into Enlightenment
Exec= enlightenment starting program
TryExec=englightenment starting program
# no icon yet, only the top three are currently used
Icon=
Type=Application

<trumpet fanfare>
Hallelujah!!
Changing '/usr/share/xsessions/enlightenment.desktop' to the following solved my problem.
[Desktop Entry]
Encoding=UTF-8
Name=Enlightenment
Comment=This session logs you into Enlightenment
Exec=enlightenment
TryExec=/usr/bin/enlightenment
# no icon yet, only the top three are currently used
Icon=
Type=Application
This has been driving me nuts for weeks, thanks!! :D Could I add a similar entry to '/usr/share/xsessions' for another WM?

Yes I think so. I guess you just have to change your file name and "Exec" "TryExec" voices and well if you want "Comment" too. I have windowmaker.desktop for example.
