Entrance not showing Username Password fields

  • Quote

Post by LinuxRocks » Thu Nov 04, 2004 4:06 pm

I just updated my Entrance and it appears that now when it comes up, it doesnt display any users or no USERNAME or PASSWORD fields anywhere. I can still log in my typing my username and pass, however.

Anyone else seeing this and know if a fix?

Thanks!!!

I just found and installed Entrance to see what it was like, i too was getting that same problem (also couldn't find any means to configure themes or what not).

However, i've managed to break it, so now if I try to use it. the screen just flickers like X keeps restarting and i can't get back to a console or anything "ooops"

Well, to configure it, I use this guide:

http://www.atmos.org/docs/entrance/index.html

Here is the web site that has other information too.

http://xcomputerman.com/pages/entrance.html

I was able to switch to a different theme and it seems to show username and password, but it still seems a little off. Hard to explain though.

Hope these sites help!!!

I managed to find its home page, but it just said for documentation 'read the readme' which didn't exactly give me a lot of useful information. 'entrance' being a common word, google didn't turn up much that was too useful when i had a quick seach. Time, there clearly needs to be more per day ;)

Entrance is giving me some trouble regarding .xsession scripts. Mine is:

Code: Select all

/usr/bin/xscreensaver&
/usr/bin/gnome-panel&
/usr/bin/gdesklets&
/usr/libexec/gnome-settings-daemon --oaf-activate-iid=OAFIID:GNOME_SettingsDaemon --oaf-ior-fd=38&
exec /usr/bin/enlightenment
Under gdm it works just fine, launching gdesklets and setting up the theme and such. If I am reading correctly, the "Default" option is supposed to excecute the user's .xsession upon login. Am I doing this wrong?
Thanks

P.S. Where are the "sessions" located (gnome, enlightenment, fluxbox, etc.)

I'm too having the same problem with Entrance - I can't see the username field at all. Any solution?

Not that I have seen yet. Still having this issue myself. You can still put in your username and pass, just cant see it :(

Quite annoying if you ask me, but it still works.

Session files are located in /etc/X11/Sessions

I've edited the default theme so you can see the username and password fields, the text you type into the fields (passwords are ***), and some cursor animations (haven't got it to move with the text though, and I don't know what it's meant to look like anyway).

This is for entrance-0.9.0.20041031.

1) Grab my updated default2.eet at http://www.gateway.net.au/~core/default2.eet (the default is default.eet), and put it into /usr/share/entrance/themes

2) In /usr/share/entrance, edit build_config.sh to change the reference to "default.eet" to "default2.eet" so it looks like

Code: Select all

edb_ed $DB add /entrance/theme str "default2.eet"
3) Run build_config.sh, and copy the newly created entrance_config.db to /etc (backup the old one in /etc if you want to)

Code: Select all

./build_config.sh
cp entrance_config.db /etc
If you want to see what it looks like, run

Code: Select all

entrance -T -t default2
There's still some minor bugs, for instance when you type a username that doesn't exist it will say that the password's wrong, then quickly change to say that the username doesn't exist. I'm not bothered by this bug, I only spent a couple of hours learning edje and fixing the theme. Also, I don't know how to make the cursor move when you type stuff in.

default2 does not work.

Yes, Entrance is very Eye candy, but it's useless if you don't have username/password fields.

Nice try. Back to gdm.

I don't know why, using bash history (edit+run+cp), I redid it (to enable opengl) and it then worked. I'm sorry for jumping to conclusions.

Still, Entrance seem a bit primitive in terms of functionality, and Enlightenment is getting quite old (breaking under Xorg). I think I'm going to drop everything until Randerman (or whetever is name) release finished code... in 2015.

entrance is really cool, but almost useless without docs that answer my questions.
the docs avaliable lacks in some areas, is unclear or unfinished, googling for "entrance" only returns useless results not related to entrance display manager.

I fixed the problem of the disappearing username/pasword boxes.
I checked out the entrance from the CVS, and rebuild the default theme. It works now like a charm.

This also has the advantage that the doc can be build and seems (I have not yet read it totally) to be more complete that any other I've found so far.

Which one? Gentoo or Enlightenment?
