Playing crypted DVD's under AMD64

  • Quote

Post by JefPober » Thu Nov 04, 2004 9:39 am

I'm having a whole lot of problems playing some crypted DVD's. All DVD's I'm tring to play are in my own region and I already set my region with regionset.

Xine gives the known error message:
Your DVD is probably crypted. According to your country laws ... libdvdcss ...
These packages (related to DVD playback) are installed:
[ebuild R ] media-libs/xine-lib-1_rc6 +X -aalib +alsa (-altivec) -arts +avi -debug -directfb +dvd +esd +gnome -ipv6 +nls +oggvorbis +sdl -speex -theora 0 kB
[ebuild R ] media-libs/libdvdcss-1.2.8 0 kB
[ebuild R ] media-libs/libdvdnav-0.1.9 0 kB
[ebuild R ] media-libs/libdvdread-0.9.4 0 kB
The commandline gives this (notice the strange libdvdcss message about /dev/sdc on /)
This is xine (X11 gui) - a free video player v0.9.23.

Some related config things in .xine/config:

# region the DVD player claims to be in (1 to 8)
# numeric, default: 1
input.dvd_region:2

# string, default: /dev/dvd
#input.dvd_device:/dev/dvd

# raw device set up for DVD access
# string, default: /dev/rdvd
#input.dvd_raw_device:/dev/rdvd

# read-ahead caching
# bool, default: 1
#input.dvd_use_readahead:1

# CSS decryption method
# { key disc title }, default: 0
input.css_decryption_method:key
Anyone has a solution for this problem?

Is your dvd SCSI ? If not turn off SCSI CDROM support.

I'm having a weird problem with Ogle that I can't seem to have real fullscreen (when I press F I get the original video with black borders).

Also when tring with Ogle I get these messages all the time:
WARNING[ogle_mpeg_ps]: Found a scrambled PES packet! (1)
WARNING[ogle_mpeg_ps]: Found a scrambled PES packet! (1)
Same with mplayer (although the message itself is different, it says the same). Watched the DVD with mplayer / Ogle gives quirky result (not full framerate).
Is your dvd SCSI ? If not turn off SCSI CDROM support.
No it isn't and the only SCSI things in my kernel are for SATA-support. I'm compîling a new kernel ATM to see if it's kernel related.

Another finding: the directory .dvdcss/LA_MEGLIO_DVD2#0000000000000000/
gets created but stays empty :/

Anyway thanks for the help!

Where does /dev/dvd link to? Make sure it links to your DVD Rom drive.

Try logging in as a freshly created user, to make sure it's nothing in your user configuration.

I'm getting certain that it's a DVD-production fault and not drive/OS-related. Other DVD's play fine and their keys get stored in .dvdcss . I'll see if my little C knowledge somehow is adequate to write a little program that somehow manages to retrieve the keys because once I have them I'll be able to play the DVD (I think)
