i back it up so that if users customized it they dont lose their settings

if you did no such thing just `rm -rf` it

/usr/e17.old

Post by crashman » Mon Jan 13, 2003 6:24 pm

The ebuild cp's your old e17 to e17.old
If you already have this dir the ebuild dies
This is so you will have a functional e17 to fall back on
So just:

rm -r /usr/e17.old
emerge enlightenment-cvs

and all should work.

good news: the e17 ebuild worked ;)
bad news: thats a bug with portage ... ive been working with carpaski to try to find out where the problem is ... but it'll happen on other packages too :/

Looks cool, Andy. I'm not quite ready with my haredware rebuild, so I won't be able to try the latest ebuild for another week or two. But I've been running the original ebuild (modified to grab the CVS code on 11/07/02) and it works pretty good. Of course, it doesn't pick up any of the SPLIT changes, but it's still cool...

Here's the thumb:

Image

I guess I'll have to put some gentoo shots up...

I got the toolbar in there too (but I stole all that stuff from cuddletech).

Okay, here are the full size ones:
http://arnolds.dhs.org/image_archive/screen_shots

I can't wait to try the new e17 ebuild (but it's time to eat now :-)

to get evidence up did you use the evas snapshots provided ?
i tried to get it to compile using a snapshot checkout (so that i could include it in the ebuild) but it just failed on me ;)

I used the 20021224 ebuild to emerge e17.
Then I checked out the evidence code from cvs. When you go to make it complains about missing a couple e17 h files (like Ebg.h Evas.h etc). I copied these files into the evidence src directory. After that it compiles fine.

Does it work to have both E16 and E17 emerged?
I've been wanting to take the time to just rebuild my computer using the new gcc but have been kinda waiting until E17 would be usable... If I can play with E17 and use E16, and be able to easily flip to E17 when it gets mature.. I think I have new plans for the next couple days...

yep, i have the ebuild install everything into /usr/e17 ...

the reason being that e isnt the only thing that would have caused conflicts with other ebuilds ...

and i use e16 ;)

W00t!
Thanks spanky.

Has the issue of the lack of text in the menus been answered? Someone said something about freetype but I'm not sure if they were talking to me... And I think the system has the newest version of freetype..

Ahh... Running E on one virtual terminal.. KDE on another... and working with my experimental system in an eterm window.... Damn I love linux :D

not sure why it happens - gyou you can just overwrite the file:
/usr/e17/share/enlightenment/data/fonts/borzoib.ttf

with your favourite ttf :)

Hehe... Thanks. Although under closer scrutiny I noticed that the version of freetype that was mentioned is apparently masked because it won't automatically install that high of version.. Hmm.. I'll have to give that a try first.. emerge -u world decided my copy of gcc was too old so I have to wait for it to finish compiling that to try it.

Thanks though... If it doesn't work I'll definatly be setting that font to something else to see if it works.

it works, sort of

Post by Mindstab » Wed Jan 15, 2003 10:49 pm

Well, I got the latest cvs ebuild to work, and it can be seen
here

But, lots still doesn't work. Why is it using GNOME's control center, and why does it crash everytime I try to change the background, for instance?

Secondly, I have no idea how to get the icon bar working..., and finnally, evidence, the file manager, wouldn't build
I got through a few problems, but I really got stuck when it was looking for a file_direct.h or something...

anyway, it looks good, but has a long way to go. Any chance a more in depth ebuild could be made? Based on the cvs, but fixed up some?

questions

Post by Smooth » Thu Jan 16, 2003 6:57 am

First off, the new ebuild compiles flawlessly, thanks! :)

I was wondering if this happens to anybody else:
When running e17, everything just seems very sluggish. Also, I can't really open anything when inside enlightenment, e.g. I'll open an xterm, the box will show up, but the window manager will just die. Enlightenment will still keep on running, but the borders around the window will disappear, and the menu's (left/right/middle clicking) don't pop up anymore.

In my make.conf I've disabled the following flags for compiling e17:
-mmx -opengl -directfb -fbcon

I had tried enabling them before, but the performance was the same as I'm getting right now. Anybody have any idea what's going on?
