Partitioned CDs?

  • Quote

Post by sp1nm0nkey » Sun Oct 31, 2004 5:12 am

Ok, so I'm installing IRIX on a workstation, and the CD that IRIX comes on has three partitions and a normal partition table. I need to mount the data partition and share it over NFS so that my workstation can boot from it, since it dosen't have a CD drive in it.

So, in a nutshell, how would I mount a single partition on a partitioned CD?

I don't know if IRIX works the same as Windows, but if you burn a multi-"session" CD, it seems like partitions when mounted in Linux. Normally it only reads the last session recorded. You could try mount session=x (1,2,3) to see if it works? I don't know if 0 is a session or not >_<;

Hope this helps.

No, it's not a session. I can FDISK the cdrom in /dev/

Does mounting it as a -t efs help in a way? (I kinda recall that's the partition type of IRIX .. or maybe not? You'll need to have kernel support for this maybe also!).

Going through the man page I came across "-o dev Interpret character or block special devices on the file system." Maybe try that on for size? You say you can fdisk /dev/cdrom. fdisk -l /dev/hdx gives you a list of partitions.. does it give you the same for the cdrom?

EDIT: Yep here we go, come down to section 9.8

Nope, it dosen't. I have been using -t efs. It says on the CD that it's EFS. It will work similar to mounting a Solaris CD under linux. I'll start researching that area too. There will probably be more info on that.
