As said in my previous post, the rubberband redraw problem went away when I recompiled everything with version 0.4.0 of the ebuilds. But thank you for taking the time to compile them on another CPU, it's very nice of you, and I do appreciate it!

In regards to the code, I guess it's best to talk to Andrunko from the kde-look site, as none of the code is mine :)

These are the packages that I would merge, in order:

Calculating dependencies \
emerge: there are no masked or unmasked ebuilds to satisfy "~kde-base/arts-1.3.1".

!!! Error calculating dependencies. Please correct.

I suggested emerge --sync to grab the latest portage tree, because now that kde 3.3.1 is in the portage tree I'm not using my own ebuilds for all the kde packages.

So you need to have the regular kde ebuilds in your portage tree, if that makes sense.

How did you go?

I forgot to re-emerge qt. Do I need to re-emerge everything now, or just qt?

- but maybe the others need to be built against patched qt libraries. not sure - try and see - if not, then re-emerge kdelibs, kdebase and kdeartwork

OK, I re-emerged qt, and everything is fine. Previously, the rubber band looked terrible, and stayed on the desktop after it should have dissappeared.

How did you go?

Emerge --sycn'd, and when I did emerge -av kdelibs kdeartwork kdebase, everything went fine.

It's been compiling since last night, and still going... it'll probably be done by the time I get home. Can't wait to check it out.

GentooBox, glad you got it all compiled, but sad it's not working. Have you tried with the nv driver? do you get the same problem? my amd64 box is using nv and nvidia drivers (the screenshots were taken on that box with nv driver). And I'm assuming you re-built qt and all the other packages, and editted render into your xorg.conf?

The drawing works fine, but not when selecting files in konqueror. (it flickers)
I tryed the new sidebar in konqueror - its ugly

but its nice that at least someone is trying to improve KDE's design.

For me it works fine in icon view but flickers in details view, this is with XFree, Radeon 9500Pro and fglrx driver

On my nvidia based system, same result as above.

Silky smooth in icon view, but slight flicker in detail view.

Also, some of you have mentioned the flicker problem when in detailed view.

I have informed Andrunko, so hopefully if will find a fix for you soon

hmmm... well got it all compiled...
don't see much of a difference except for this really ugly selection thing... i think you guys call it the rubberband... anyway... isn't it supposed to be transparent when i click and drag?

Konqueror still looks the same...
give it a look...

hey, yep that's it.

but it should be smooth.. and not leave trail behind, and as you can see in my screenshot it's a nice perrty blue colour

I think something must not have compiled cleanly on your system - I think it's working for everyone else now..

what version of the ebuilds were you using?

Here is a screenshot of 0.4.3 working on my PC.

The screenshot. So, what do you think?

I had to move Konqurer of the edge of the screen so you could see the Gentoo logo. Personally, the entire is extremely fast. The rubberband stays with the cursor no matter how fast I move it. It is working very nicely for me.

I like that background so much that I had to make the taskbar transparent, so I could see more of it.

Actually I have the same problem as taskara, been following this thread since the early posts, and never had any luck :(

must say I like the new look tho.

I wouldn't submit it yet, and yes I have recompiled everything I can think of, and I am using render accel

but keep up the good work! the other changes are great (I like the new sidebar :)

I compiled the thing and everything works well but the selection rectangle. See here how it looks:

I do not know why your rubberband does not work, when mine does. We are using the same code, so this is strange. Let's compare notes. I am using the nvidia driver. I have dri and that other option below it compiled into the kernel. I also have:

in the xorg.conf. I am using xorg-x11-6.8.0-r1. Kde 3.3.1 with version 0.4.3 of the patches. I am using udev 040 at the moment, but I don't think this has any bearing on what's going on.

Is there anything else that I need to add to the list of comparing? Let's try to figure this out.

I knew it would come right after I finally posted - always does.

I had qt-3.3.1-r1 installed, so it wouldn't install the new patched version....I renamed the ebuild to r2 (I don't care if it's wrong) and installed it - works great now :)

In case anyone's interested, I have created new ebuilds for v0.5.0

Changelog:
v0.5.0: (2004-Oct-25)
* a lot of cleanup and refactoring.
* fix bug in konqueror detailed view mode that made the alternate background lines draw incorrect (thanks to DarkLord to point this out).
* now no app will be affected by the patch for bug 88964.
* modified qt patches to kde ones so is more easy to get they accepted by kde developers.
* removed kdepim patch (no more necessary).
