Gentoo-Installation on T41p

Hi,

I got my T41p some weeks ago and now I want to install it on this machine. So anyone here who installed gentoo from scratch in the last few weeks and get tell me how it works and how long it takes ... Im not sure if I do a install from boostrap.

no clu what a T41p is.. but it all depends on you're processor speed. For me, installing from bootstrap took me about 8 hours but I'm seasoned at installing.. ur prolly gonna run into errors along the way. My system is a 2.16 ghz athlon-xp 3000+ (barton core). Good luck

EDIT: Note that the earlier of a stage you use, the less errors there are.. my experiences with different stages..

Stage3 install: failed, couldn't get it working right ever
Stage2 install: had to fix about 7 emerge errors but didn't need to post on forum
Stage1 install: No errors. Compiled perfectly and optimized completely to my needs (yes i did edit the default settings)

Hi,

Its a Notebook. IBM Thinkpad T41p. The questions goes to any Gentoo User with a similar Notebook. Just looked for some experience with Gentoo and a T41p.

I have a T42p and I m going to do a stage 2 install next weekend when I get the time. I did a previous stage 2 install 3 weeks ago, but the hard drive died on me (it was an external, meh).

If I remember correctly, it took less than 10 hours, I let it go while I slept, and woke up and it was done.

What took you 10 hours? emerge system ? emerge system kde?

emerge system + emerge kde. Pretty much from start to finish. emerging the ati drivers installed x.org 6.8.0 (after installing 6.7.0), so it could probably be trimmed down a little.

Hi,

So, just installed KDE and some other usefull tools like firefox, K3b and so on. How do you installed your FireGL? Just emerged ati-drivers? Or do I have to do something special?
