KDE mutes sound at start up

  • Quote

Post by link97381 » Wed Oct 13, 2004 11:24 pm

During the kde start up about half way through the kde start up sound the sound all of a sudden stops. All I have to do to get sound back is
amixer set PCM 100 unmute
amixer set Master 100 unmute
But that gets kinda annoying....And this happens every time I start KDE not the computer it self. I've tried logging out and back in to kde and it does the samething.
BTW I'm running a fresh install of everything with KDE 3.3

Does anybody have any idea what is going on?
Let me know if you need any more info

Might be this, was an issue with kde-3.2.3 .

nope that's not it but thanks anyways, anyone else have any ideas? If nothing else as soon as 3.3.1 makes its way into portage I'll switch to that but before I wiped my system clean and reinstalled everything from scratch a few weeks ago it worked fine with 3.3

Usualy this bug come from the first boot of KDE 3.3.

It seems that KDE create "~/.kde/share/config/kmixctrlrc" with the current mixer setting and then load them at every log-in.
I didn't found any way to make KDE change/reset/reload his default mixer from any of his GUI tools...

So my suggestion :
edit "~/.kde/share/config/kmixctrlrc" :D

Or you can start kmix, right click on the systray icon and select "Show Mixer Window", go to "Settings" -> "Configure KMix...", and uncheck "Restore volumes on login". That's a pretty bad default setting, hidden in an obscure place.

I actualy found another fix for it in a different thread......open kmix and unmute everything then leave it open and log out and back in and it will save the settings and you never have to open kmix again.....but the unchecking restore volumes on login would probably work just the same.
