GUI for burning cd's(without scci emulation)

  • Quote

Post by abcdefg » Tue Oct 12, 2004 5:23 pm

Hi,

I just burned my first cd wihout scci emulation with cdrecord.
But if I install a GUI which is a frontend to cdrecord it tells me I need scci emulation. (xcdtoast)

Why does a program that is a frontend to cdrecord need scci emulation but cdrecord not?
Is there a GUI available that doesn't need scci emulation?

I tried k3b, but is very hard to configure without kde.

Thanks,
David

XCDRoast complains about SCSI emulation, but it doesn't actually matter. It should record CDs anyway, you just have to live with the warnings until they update the program.

I've used XCDRoast as well, along with GCombust and K3b. All without SCSI emulation. (BTW, I also use K3b without using KDE, without too much difficulty either..)

I would go for k3b, just emerge it with use="kde", than you get the k3b setup and it is easy to configure. XCDRoast is slow at startup without SCSI emulation, but works fine otherwise, but I preferr k3b, faster startup and easier...

Grip works fine for me. Search for ATAPI in the Multimedia forum.

BashBurn is pretty good if you like curses-based apps.

Thanks for all your replys,

After trying a lot burn programs I prefer k3b, so I installed it with use flag kde (too bad it had to install kde-base). Now k3b works perfect.

I hate to bump an old thread, but how did you get gcombust working without scsi-emulation? It won't accept anything on my system.
why can't it just work?

I got gcombust working without scsi emulation by following the instructions in this thread:
http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?t=71952

It was a while ago, and I haven't used gcombust for a while, but I would assume that it would a similar, if not the same process.

Looks like I'm stuck with no burning. Got a DVD-RW drive, and it claims that no matter what, I have to have the ProDVD BS to get it working.

I'll just burn in windows.

What about XCDRoast?

Did you follow the instructions at the xcdroast site? They give you a software key that you need to apply to unlock the DVD burning features. Have you tried that?

If you really can't get it working.. there's always K3b.. I have K3b installed _without_ kdebase and it works fine AFAICT... (unmerged kdebase after...) :? :?:
