You need to emerge xfwm4 with the +compositor use flag to get drop shadows in xorg.nickeh wrote:Looks really nice!
Having some problems though.
1. Auto-hide is broke
2. XFCE-systray doesn't show up in my panel
3. Don't get any eyecandy from xorg. (Shadows)
That's all for now, will probably run into som more problems...
Oh, wouldn't it be nice to somhow set the transparancy of a window by pointing at the window list and scroll with the scroll wheel ? Maybe its not possible to do som sort of fade but since you can roll up windows with your scroll wheel you suld be able to do other stuff to!!
Also kind of enoying that if you scroll when having mouse att edge of the screen XFCE counts it as if you have the mouse on the desktop and therefore it changes to next/previous desktop
Desktop Settings, Menu tabmadbiker wrote: My next question is how I get the icons to be displayed in the right-click menu. I've realized the power of the drag-n-drop from the appfinder to the menueditor as well. However, the icons are displayed in the menueditor, but not in the right-click menu. Is there a checkbox somewhere I'm missing?

I think there is but no frontend to it.. If I remember rightly from the mailing lists, it works if you use pop3://user:pass@server. Not tried it myself, though.LostSon wrote:WOW this is hella niceI thought they were gonna add a pop3 mail checker in the new verison as though
Thanks for the great instructions
Firstly, ~/.xfce4/ is now deprecated in favour of ~/.config/xfce4/. And I'm assuming you're using the session manager, in which case just do aWhyteWolf wrote:anyone know how to get rid of the taskbar in this one ... it seems to be ignoreing my /etc/xfce4 and ~/.xfce folders compleatly
not to mention the manual doesn't come up with alt+f1 or by clicking on the help button

I love the way you can change desktop with the scroll wheel. You can also shade a window if you use the scroll wheel on a titlebar. I am so used to these two features that I go mad if I find myself using any other WM.
Have you added the systray? You have to right click the panel and add item. Also turn the systray off in the taskbar. And of course the systray wont look like much if you don't have something running that makes use of it....
that would be xfce4-mixer ... which the new version is said not to work with alsa ... which sucks IMHO sence I'm also a alsa userTUX2k wrote:I just emerged XFCE4.2 beta1and I can just say one think it rocks.
But just one thnig, some of you have screensaver en sound present in the setting screen.
I dont. My sound works but I dont have the volume controle in as a panel.
Any one any idea what could have gone wrong. als is there a toturial vor the composite some where?
This is already fixed, but not in time for the beta. Apparently there was a file missing. You can get the working version from cvs if you can't wait for the next release.WhyteWolf wrote:that would be xfce4-mixer ... which the new version is said not to work with alsa ... which sucks IMHO sence I'm also a alsa user
me personaly I"ll just wait ... I can just use some other mixer for nowradTube wrote:This is already fixed, but not in time for the beta. Apparently there was a file missing. When I maximize a window and scroll at the edge of the screen nothing happens.nickeh wrote: Ahh, missed that![]()
Ye the changing desktop with scroll is sweet but isn't it suppsed to just change if you point your mouse on a empty pice of desktop?
If i have a maximized window and put the cursor at the edge of the screen and try to scroll the window instead i get the next desktop.
Yea probably isn't a good idea to remove the shade with scroll feature but what if they did it with a key kombo like Shift + Scrollwheel = Transset and scrollwheel remains controlling shade as it is now.
Probaly i just misunderstot the purpose of systray.![]()
Well seems like your tips solved my problems. Thanks!
What was said before about xfce4-mixer, and I think the screensaver settings part would depend on xscreensaver being installed, do you have it?TUX2k wrote:I just emerged XFCE4.2 beta1and I can just say one think it rocks.

Good point, thanks. I only just realised what exactly (or mostly, anyway..) dodoc does in the ebuilds now you mention it, I copied them from 4.0.6's ebuilds before 'cos I wasn't exactly sure what it should do/be like, but it looked right. You can see I'm not an expert by any means at these, can't you..WhyteWolf wrote:just noticed something about thease ebuilds ... all the docs didn't get copyed to /usr/share/doc ...
all the README.Kiosk from xfce4-session, xfce4-panel, xfdesktop are missing
do you have a bugzilla for thease ebuilds?

Ah well, I suppose we all start somewhere. I'll go through those when I have some time, perhaps later. And no, not got any fancy stuff like that I'm afraid.
