[Shell Programming] FPS of a movie and changing modeline?

Problems with emerge or ebuilds? Have a basic programming question about C, PHP, Perl, BASH or something else?

[Shell Programming] FPS of a movie and changing modeline?

Hi,
I have two questions regarding shell script programming:
1. With what command can I determine the fps of an avi movie? mplayer displays it but I need to know the fps before playing the movie.
2. I've got two modelines in my xorg-config. One is for playing back ntsc movies and one for pal. How can I change to a specific modeline in a script?

1. thats not really related to bash scripting.
2. That sounds really weird, why would you want to to that? Bad picture?

Servus ;)
1. to what is it related?
2. No the picture itself isn't really bad. But playing back an ntsc-movie with my voodoo3-tvout set at PAL lets the video get a little bit stuttering sometimes. Adjusting the playback speed helps but has other negative side-effects regarding audio etc. So the only real solution is to change the mode to ntsc. I already found a good script for this problem here http://www.richard.neill.hemscott.net/chres so I only need a solution for point 1...
