Devel kernels 2.5.42 though 2.5.52 I have booting and working.
Only problem is that I am unable to load modules. I keep getting the following errors

modprobe: QM_MODULES : function not implemented

any idea's? I'd really like to check out these kernels for testing purposes.

Try installing the module-init-tools from http://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/ ... y/modules/. I'm running 2.5.51 and it works fine.

Be forewarned, if you install module-init-tools for module support for the dev kernels, it will break module functionality for 2.4 series kernels.

is there a way I can avoid this? maybe by moving /sbin/modprobe /sbin/lsmod /sbin/insmod /sbin/rmmod and putting them back for 2.4?

nevermind I got it. When you make install the modules-init-tools it tells you to move the old tools to stuff like insmod.old lsmod.old and this keeps 2.4 compatibility

Hey, you guys, you know there is an ebuild for module-init-tools and it IS backwards compatable with the 2.4 kernel.

just type 'emerge module-init-tools'

Must be new to emerge, cause on Dec. 18 with my original post, there was no emerge in the testing portage tree... Unless, I'm totally wrong, I know I typed it a few times.
